Chapter 7
(After
Adalie and her mom sat in the car for 30 minutes, they finally
calmed down enough to go inside. They walked to Coen's room and
Adalie stopped at the door. Her mom gave her a hug and told her
she could go in. She opened the door and saw her brother lying in
the hospital bed; cloths and gauzes wrapped around his head, and
bandages under that. Adalie couldn't stand to look at this. She
began to cry. She didn't just have a few tears here and there,
tears were coming out so much that she could've made a pool out
of them. Her mom walked in just as she began to cry, and told her
she could go to the cafeteria...
Chandler's POV-
As school ended, I practically ran to my car. As I reached for my
door handle I heard someone call my name. I turned around and saw
Tatum jogging towards me while yelling my name to get attention.
He finally reached me and said, "Are you by any chance going to
see Adalie today?" "Umm. Yahh. I'm about to head over there right
now actually." I replied. "Oh. Well, could I follow you over
there? I wanted to go see her." "Yahh. That's cool I guess."
...(Seriously? I know she's his girlfriend, but I'm her best
friend. I wanted to go see her and her family by myself, but now
he is coming to. Great.) I thought as I drove to the
hospital.
Tatum and Chandler pulled up to the hospital around 3:48, and got
out of their cars. They walked up towards the door and Chandler
quickly turned towards Tatum, "Adalie's brother's name is Coen,
by the way. Not sure if you knew. He's in the army. and he is
23." "Thanks. I was wondering about him. She hasn't really told
me much about him." "Yahh, she misses him alot and usually cries
when she talks about him. So she doesn't say much." "Oh.." Tatum
and Chandler walked up to the front desk, and a nurse showed them
which room Coen was in. They walked up to the room and Adalie's
mom and dad were standing outside. "Alice, Craig, how are ya'll?"
"We're doing alright." They replied. "How is Coen doing? Any
news?" "He's doing the same. In a coma and possible brain damage.
We won't know anything else for a while." ..Adalie's parents
motioned for Chandler and Tatum to go in the room. Chandler
quickly walked over to the side of Coen's bed. He grabbed his arm
as his eyes started watering. Tatum stood quietly in the corner
watching.
...Adalie's parents walked in and started talking to Tatum.
Chandler quietly asked Alice where Adalie was. She told him she
had been in the cafeteria since this morning.
Chandler's POV-
I walked into the cafeteria and looked around for Adalie. I
couldn't find her, so I walked over to a nurse to ask where she
was. While asking the nurse, someone ran up to me and grabbed me
around the waste tightly. I turned around and saw Adalie, face
red and crying. "Adalie.." "Chandler. Thank you so much for
coming. I need someone to talk to." "I would do anything for you,
you know that.. Tatum is here to." "Ohh. Where is he?" "He is
back at the room talking to your parents." "Oh, alright. Well,
you wanna come sit down? I got pretty much every snack out of the
vending machine on the table over there, but haven't eaten any of
them." "My best friend and food? Duh I'll come." I said
jokingly.
...After Adalie and Chandler talked for over 2 hours, they
decided to go back to the room and check on her parents and
Tatum. When they got to the room, her parents were standing
outside but Tatum wasn't there. "Where is Tatum?" She asked. "He
went home. He needed to do some homework, but he said he loves
you and if you need anything you can text or call him." "Okay.."
Adalie replied.
