After finding out that Caleb did, in
fact, cheat on Krista, I was kind of taken by surprise. This game
was tearing people apart.
Then, the moment I'd been waiting for arrived: Luke's
turn. I watched as all the girls except Krista and Jordan started
to bite their lips. They all had the same question: who did Luke
like? Who did he want? Would he want to kiss me? Uh, I mean,
them.
"Anybody got a question?" Jordan asked, her combat
boots propped up on the old table, making it creak whenever she
moved. I frowned. Luke didn't seem the least bit nervous.
Maybe he didn't have a secret. Maybe it was just that nobody
bothered to ask him anything.
I watched and stared at the other girls, almost all of them
looking like they were about to bite clear through their bottom
lips.
"I'd like to ask Luke something." Noel finally
said, looking right at me. I knitted my eyebrows; why was Noel
looking at me?
"Go for it." Luke said, leaning forward, big hands
palms-down on the table. I smiled at their big-ness.
"The world's ending, we need to rebuild the population,
and only the girls in this room are left for you to choose from.
Who do you choose?" Noel asked.
I got it now. Noel was asking this for me. He knew this was what
I wanted to know.
"Honestly?" Luke said, smiling. "I'd choose
Jane." He said. Jane's face didn't change from her
normal, half-smile and she was still biting down on her bottom
lip.
The answer was never Becca. Never.
It was always Beauty Queen Jane. Too bad she's a Barbie and
she has to buy her friends.
But, apparently, her Ken isn't sold seperately; the guys will
come without a purchase.
