thinking about ending
your life?
take a deep breath.
take a bath and have a cup of tea.
think about what’s wrong.
everything that’s wrong.
be honest with yourself.
just sit in the bath and mull things over.
as long as the water’s warm, you can think about everything
that’s wrong.
don’t get out until you’ve cast light into every dark
corner of your mind.
don’t let any unhappiness go unnoticed.
and then get out.
you’re not allowed to be sad over those things anymore.
you got the sadness out.
now sort things into two categories: things you can do something
about, and things you can’t. again, you have to be
honest.
it won’t work if you’re not.
first tackle the things you can do something about, and break it
down again. into little tasks.
if you’re upset about your weight, what can you do?
what’s reasonable? will you do sit ups before you go to
bed?
if you’re upset about your grades, what can you do? promise
yourself you’ll go talk to your teachers.
are you depressed? make an appointment with a therapist.
whatever it is, think about what you can do. remember how much
power you have. there’s help out there if you ask for it.
your teachers will help you. your parents will help you. your
friends will help you. just tell them what to do.
don’t give up control when you can. you have more power
than you think. never forget that.
happiness is there, and finding it isn’t overwhelming. but
then think about what you don’t have control over.
if someone doesn’t like you, or if you hate your
town… there’s only so much you can do. know where
you have power and know when you don’t.
now get into bed. think of what you’re going to do
tomorrow. and release all the anxiety over the things you
can’t do.
listen to music you like, read one of your favorite books, or
open the window and let the air in. breathe. you’re safe,
you’re okay, and you can change things.
go to sleep, and wake up tomorrow. you’ve made it through
another day.
