Chapter One


"Brett, i have your medicine for you". This was a common phrase i heard every day, more than once. Im brett, im 16 and was diagnosed with leukemia when i turned 15. Ever since, ive been stuck in the Delenor Cancer Hospital on 3rd street in Los Angelos, california. Its not too bad here, but i left a great life behind. I miss playing football with all my friends. I have blue eyes, and blonde hair. I originally lived in North Carolina so i don't get visitors much. My nurse, Jackie, takes care of me. She is a nice lady and is getting married next summer. Its January, hopefully i'll be able to go. I get treatment by myself because im the only one with Leukemia in the hospital, it kind of sucks because i have no one to talk to and a lot of the time i feel really alone. Today, is January 5th, there isn't much to do around here. From my time at the hospital, i started to read. When i was in school, i didn't do much reading, but now that im hear, it takes me to another place. I asked Jackie, if i could go to the Library, "Sure but be back soon, i have a suprise for you". she winked, probably just a new movie or something. Not very important. I walked to library and passed all these Kids about two years younger than me, i don't talk to much of the kids around here, I don't really like them very much. They don't seem to mind though, they  don't make an effort to talk to me. I got to the Library, i kind of wanted to Read , Twilight even though it was a girls book, i mean one of the main characters is a guy so why not. I checked it out, and walked back to my room, Their was a girl there. I looked at Jackie with a confused look, "Brett, this is Grace. Grace this is Brett." "hi". she said. She didn't look happy, what was her problem? Jackie continued, " you both have leukemia and we thought it'd be a good idea for you two to share a room, were getting installed a curtain since you two are not the same gender." The girl, Grace went outside to say goodbye to her mom and dad. She was a pretty girl, Light brown hair, Hazel eyes. Grace came back in and sat on her bed, i was looking at her when she said, "why are you looking at me?" i looked away, "sorry." Jackie came in, "i think it'd be good if you two got to know eachother. Why don't you take her on a tour of the hospital, brett?" I looked at her, "i guess it'd be good to know where things are."
