Redemption

The rain beat against Emily’s window. She had never seen so many raindrops fall. It was as if the sky was crying. Crying for her. What reason does the sky have to cry? Emily thought. Emily is fairly unemotional it would take a hurricane to see her soft side.
 “You know your room probably wouldn’t be so cold if you unpacked,” Emily’s mom poked her head in the door.
“Yeah well I don’t see us staying here for long, so there is really no point,” Emily said harshly, grabbing a sweater out of a box.
“Emily we are going to be here for a while,” Emily’s mom stepped completely into the room.
“Yeah well that’s what you said the last time,” Emily said turning away.
“I’m trying Emily, it has been really hard since your father…” Her voice trailed off.
“What? Left? Yes mom I know dad left you don’t have to be afraid to say it,” Emily walked across to her bed.
“I just know it’s a sensitive subject okay?” Emily’s mom said crossing her arms.
”Sensitive for who? Because it sure isn’t me, I’m a big girl mom,” Emily looked out the window.
“Look Emily I don’t get why you insist on shutting the world out,” Her voice got louder with each word.
“I don’t get why you insist on moving every time you screw up,” Emily said staring at her mom.
“I don’t know why I even try,” Emily’s mom turned and walked out of the room.
“You could at least shut the door!” Emily shouted after her as she slammed the door. Emily sighed and buried her face in her pillows. I don’t shut the world out. Emily thought. The world just hates me! Emily left herself with that thought and shut off the light. The lightning flashed through her window. Emily turned on her side and tried to fall asleep.

Morning came too soon. Emily arose to find that it had stopped raining. Emily lay in bed searching the ceiling for motivation to get up. Most Saturdays started off this way. How am I even going to face my mom, she must hate me now. Emily’s thoughts rolled around in her head.
