Chapter 4


"Hello?" I said, trying to keep my balance.

"Isabelle, you don't nee-" I didn't get to hear the rest of what he was saying because I fell over onto my face.

"Ow," I mumbled to the floor. The phone had fallen out of my hand, so that meant he had probably heard my embarrassing fall.

"ISABELLE!" I heard my father yell, and I stood up, dusting myself off.

"Yes?" I said, smiling politely.

"What is all that racket?" He looked at me all funny.

"I fell."

"As I can see..."

"Yup." I nodded, and pulled out the pizza. "Pizza's done."

"I know that too. Now who was on the phone?" he asked.

"Just my husband." I smiled innocently. He looked like he was trying hard not to yell.

"YOU GOT MARRIED?!"

"It's not like it was my choice. I mean, I was forced into." I stuck my hand to my forehead, in a dramatic way. "It was terrible, Papa!"

He widened his eyes. "I will talk to your husband now, no?"

"NO! I was kidding! It's for school!" I picked the phone up off the floor and hung up. "Chill your ice."

Fifty seven minutes later, I was pulling into the Dickens' driveway. I was nervous, yes, but also excited. I would be

"married" to the most popular guy at school. Papa stopped the car and I got out. "Here goes nothing," I mumbled,

walking up to the door. Before I had a chance to collect myself and ring the doorbell, the door opened. Great.

"Isabelle, I assume?" a handsome young man in a suit said. "I'm Bradley, and I'm Christopher's brother." He held out his hand, and I

shook it.

"Yes, I'm Isabelle." I smiled politely.
