Escape chapter  16

I saw specs of light through some trees.

They grew into rows of splodges, rows of rectangle lights then a building.

The road swerved and turned into a driveway.

I stopped jogging and started walking, letting in deep gasps of breath into my tires and cold lungs. I walked through some gates, wide open and then up to the huge double doors that lead into the building.

Would I knock?

My cold hand banged onto the doors, making a sound louder than I thought it would make. Was this really Shefton?

I hadn’t really expected this; a big building.

Maybe I’d come to the wrong place. I took a step backwards and thought about making a run for it, the other way, towards where Shefton would actually be.

The big doors burst open and a woman with short black hair, glasses, big brown eyes and chubby cheeks looked down on me. She looked kind.

“Ah,” she smiled as she adjusted her glasses and made room for me to walk through the door, “You must be our new student,”

I closed my mouth and nodded, feeling a warm draft blow from inside the house and onto my cold body.

I walked up the three stairs and into the hallway with the woman next to me.

I was finally here. My new start.
