*months
later*
I tapped my freshly manicured nails on the
kitchen table.
"Hurry up, mom! It's a funeral, not a fashion
show!" I yelled from my seat. She rushed down the stairs
wearing a short black dress and tall heels.

I, on the
other hand, was wearing something very cute. I smiled in the
mirror every time I walked by, which was a big change for me.

"Penny,
it's a funeral not some party. Why don't you
wear something more appropriate?" My mom lectured. Then
changed the subject. "It's quite weird how they would
have a double funeral, don't you think? I mean, who
would've thought that Trent and Brandon's families were
that close." I zoned out drowing in my own thoughts. Then
it suddenly hit me. Like a slap in the face. Trent and Brandon
from the woods that night. The news I've been listening to
for the past weeks have been saying things like "Two boys
gone missing" ..."No contact from the boys
yet" ..."Boys finally found in woods,
pronounced dead." I started sobbing and my mom put her arm
around me, making me cry more.
To think that I was in the same woods where they died gave me
the chills.
