It All Started with a Tweet- Chapter
61
I woke to a quiet knock on the door.
I sat up, trying not to wake Justin, and stumbled towards the door.
I winced at the bright light of the hall, and when I adjusted I saw
Patti standing there. I turned, grabbed my room key and some shoes,
then walked out. "What's up?" I whispered, not
knowing what time it was.
"I wanted to talk to you before he got up," she checked
her watch, "it's about about 8:30." She motioned me
into her room across the way and graciously accepted the coffee she
offered me. "I know last night was crazy, so once everyone got
some sleep I think it would be good to talk it out. Elena,
honey," she put her hand on top of mine, "I love you, a
lot, like the daughter I never had. So you know I only have your
best intentions at heart, right?"
"Oh, of course! I'm not upset, well I am upset, I
don't want to leave Justin. But I kinda agree with you, I only
have a few weeks left...I shouldn't really be missing school
right now," I looked down into my cup guiltily, I didn't
want to tell Justin that, because he went to all that trouble, but
I really shouldn't be here right now. "I could go home,
finish school, talk to my parents, pack up, decorate the new
house...I could be all set for when Justin comes home."
"I'm going to give you the choice, Elena, but you know
what I want you to do. It seems that you're pretty sure what
you want to do too," she left me think for a few moments
before continuing on. "It will be okay, you know, he will
forgive you."
I felt the tears in my eyes, "but what if he doesn't? What
if...what if he gets mad that I left? What if he leaves me
again?"
"Oh, honey," Patti walked around the table and pulled me
into a hug. I was uncomfortable at first, but eventually let myself
go.
"I can't lose him, you know?"
"Justin would be absolutely crazy to think he could find
someone else better, and I'll tell him that. I did when he was
talking to Julia. But Justin love you Elena, he really does. The
only reason why there wasn't a ring in that box was because I
told him he was too young and had to wait."
"You did?"
"Yes, he of course asked me for my blessing, and although
I'm totally for the idea, I'm against it as well. You kids
are too young! You haven't even graduate high school! So
that's why he bought the house, as a stepping stone. He has to
build the stairs before he can open the door. You have to build
your relationship before you get married. He can't think that
getting married, to anyone, will fix all of the problems."
I nodded, thinking. "Maybe some time apart will allow us to
grow as people before we move in together. Set ourselves up to
really work on things. Let him finish the album, let me finish
school, this might be a good idea."
"I haven't cancelled your flight yet," she looked at
the clock. "You could still make it. Elena, he'll
understand."
"Are you sure?" I sniffed, and she nodded. I stood up and
drank the rest of my coffee, "thanks Patti, I really needed
that. I'm gonna go pack..see if he's up," I took a
deep breath.
"I'll come over in a little bit, hun." I nodded,
walking out the door. I had to tell him...but how do I say it?
Should I just leave quietly and let him figure it out himself? What
do I do? I opened the door quietly, and saw he was still sleeping.
That made my decision even harder.
Should she tell him before she leaves, or just take off?
