Chapter
twenty-one
I walked down the stairs from my locker the next
day after school. I saw Callie and Hunter and she smiled as I
made my way towards her. Her look turned conflicted as she stared
behind me. I turned around and saw Trent also making her way
towards them. I could tell she was deciding between going and
talking to Trent about all of this, and making sure Hunter stays
out of this.
I gave her a way to get both, by pulling Hunter away to discuss a
time to work on our project.
I made sure he was facing the opposite direction as Callie, and i
watched as she slowly walked up to Trent, and they began to talk,
I was expecting the full deeds later that night. "So what do
you think... Kelly? Kelly! What are you looking at?" Hunter
broke me out of my daze.
I grabbed his arm just as he was about to turn around to see what
I was looking at, "oh um sorry I'm tired I was zoning
out. What did you say now?"
"Um... how about Saturday afternoon?" he repeated,
suspiciously.
"Uh... sounds good, i don't think I have anything
planned."
"Yeah me either."
"Well no duh... you're the one that suggested
it."
"Oh yeah... that's right..."
"You're such a dork."
"YOU CALLING ME FAT?!?!?!"
"YEAH YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH ME."
"No..." he said cowering away, pretending to
be afraid.
I giggled, and continued, trying to keep the convo going and give Callie some more time, "you
wanna tussle?"
"No."
"Cause you know I'll win?"
"...Yes..."
"Smart boy."
"I know I am."
"You keep thinking that."
"You know what else I'm thinking about?" before he
could tell me, Callie wrapped her arms around his waist. His
expression turned anxious but he quickly covered it up and
smiled.
"Miss me?" she flirted.
"Of course! Where'd you go?" he wondered.
"Oh... uh... um..." she struggled.
"Ever heard of a bladder? Yes us girls have them too so
every now and then we use these things called bathrooms. Yeah
thats right the world isn't our
bathroom like guys sometimes seem to think..." I saved her
yet again that day.
They both laughed and we headed toward the front door where Benny
would be. "Bye Hunter!" we both called as he hustled
over to the football field for practice. Callie had this Friday
off from softball, so we hopped into the car and headed to her
house, throwing our stuff in the entryway, we crashed on the
couch.
"So...." I said, extending the o.
"We talked..." she replied.
"Well duh! What didya guys
say?" I pressed.
"Um... well..."
Callie's POV
"HUNTER!" I yelled down the hallway after the final
bell rang on Friday.
"CALLIE!" he called back. We ran in slowmo towards each other and hugged once we met in
the middle, but he almost knocked me over. We broke out laughing,
causing people around us to stare at us weirdly, not that we
cared of course. "How was your day my lady?" Hunter
asked."Well, but amazing now that I'm with you my
man," I answered.
"Agreed," he smiled.
I saw Kelly bounce down the stairs and I smiled, signally for her
to come over, that's when I saw him. As soon as he caught me
looking, Trent made his way over to us. Oh crap! What now! I
haven't told Hunter about the situation with Trent yet, I
don't know what to tell him, and I sure as hell don't
want to hurt him. I didn't know what to do, but then Kelly
came to my rescue, and grabbed Hunter aside and made up something
about a project. I walked up to Trent shyly, "um...
hi."
"Hey," he greeted smoothly." I smiled and he
continued on, "so you must've gotten my text? Did you
think about it?"
"Yes i did."
"And....?"
