Chapter 1.Zach.

And tonight is the night my band plays for the nation.
7 years ago things were different. I was 13 years old and it was a hot August day. I was just a normal boy hanging out with my friends, playing football. I lived in a gated community for the rich kids as some would say. It’s very uncommon to see people move in. But it just so happens that August day a moving truck appeared to be driving up to the house next to mine. There were actually 3 huge moving trucks. My friends and I all stopped dead in our tracks and stared. A huge Lamborghini appeared behind the last of the trucks. A woman, middle aged, came out of the vehicle. Then a man and a daughter came out behind the mom. The daughter was beautiful. She had baby blue eyes and long blonde hair. She looked around my age to. My friends, Jake, Mike and Chris, started making some jokes about her. They called her some names but I ignored them. All I could do was stare in admiration. She and her mom started gushing about how pretty the house was and her dad just smiled. They all walked in the house, one by one.
The next day my mom made my whole family go over to introduce ourselves. I have two sisters. They are 16 year old twins who are the most moody ignorant people I have ever meant. Mom made they put on a fake smile and suck it up. We strolled over to their house with a big platter of cookies. We rang the doorbell and the father came. He was in his late 30’s, muscular but he looked very friendly. “Well, hello there it’s very nice to meet you guys,” he replied in a strong but calming tone. “Hi, we are the Miller’s, your neighbors. We would love to welcome you guys. We don’t get many new people,” mom said in one of her cheesy pretend voice. For her first impressions mean everything. The father smiled and welcomed us in. We scurried in one by one. I was in awe once again.
The house has like a house out of a Lowes magazine. Everything had a place. From the antiques gently lying on the walls to the vanilla scented candles out lining the windows. The house had a new, never been used house smell. But my attention zoomed into the photos out lining the fire place. The photos had pictures of two girls posing in different scenes. The other day I only saw one girl.
“Well make your selves a home. Hey, Anna and Francesca we have some visitors.” The father yelled. Two beautiful women came running down the winding stair case. The mom looked surprised but very pleased. The daughter looked like she was forcing a smile for us, like my sisters were forcing a smile for her. “Well take a seat take a seat. I’ll be right back does anyone want some lemonade and finger sandwiches?” the mom replied sweetly. My whole family smiled and nodded with gratitude. The awkward moment of silence was coming up I could feel it but the father spoke. “We just moved here from New York. The city was crowded and Alana, my wife, and I wanted Francesca here to experience more than just a city life. So, we thought that good ‘ole Pennsylvania would be the perfect spot. Beautiful scenery and good neighborly like folks like you all were exactly what we were looking for. This place seems calm and very nourishing,” the dad smiled. I could already get that rich snooty vibe from him. The daughter looked like she wanted to leave. She seemed almost pained as if someone told her she was ugly. She was forcing that smile more than ever now.

And then my family was sitting in the Masone house eating finger sandwiches, listening to their family bio. The mom and dad bragged on and on for about an hour. The daughter looked more pained every time a word would come out of her parent’s mouths. Periodically I would turn and look at the pictures. I wanted to ask so badly were the other daughter was but I killed the urge. Finally my mom spoke and said we had to leave, that my sisters had cheering. Which they did but, not for another hour. I could see it in on my mom’s face. She was awe struck with their beauty and money. She hated being showed up. But the father wanted me to stay. “Hey there son I was wondering if you could stay and show my daughter around town?” I couldn’t say no and my mom knew that.

My sisters and mom hastily exited the house. I stood there like an idiot. “Well what’s your name dear?” asked Anna. “Uhh… Zach.” I replied.  “Well you didn’t sound so sure of yourself. Oh you know I’m just teasing you can call me Ann, my husband John and Francesca Franny or Fran,” she said it like any proud mother would. I didn’t know what to say, everything felt awkward. “Well son just don’t stand there! Now you and Franny come home at around 6 you hear?” John replied sternly. For the first time Fran talked. “Yes dad I know the rules.” she smiled. She speedily pushed me out the huge wooden door. “Hey I’m sorry for my parents. They can really be vein. I hope they didn’t creep you out or anything. I don’t want to lose my first friend here already.” Fran whispered. Now she actually looked like she wasn’t compelling that fake smile. I could tell she was the type of girl who was different around her parents then her friends. I thought she was just another rich snooty girl, who only cared about their Uggs and handbags. Were popularity was a must and being different was a wincing thought. I was never so wrong in my life.
