I actually wrote this in 5th grade as a persuasive essay, teachers were highly impressed and asked me to read this at my 5th grade graduation ceremony, then it was published in the newspaper!

Bullying has become very popular and a big issue throughout the country and I feel as though it needs to stop! I would like to make a huge change and do whatever it takes to have this nonsense stopped! If we help stop bullying, it could change lives. Many people may realize what kind of pain they are causing to others, but until someone steps up to confront these people about their actions, they appear to be untouchable. People have actually killed themselves because of the insane bullying going on. How bad do you think these bullies feel? Some of them actually care about what they've done and are disgusted to think that they caused something so horrific like that and have guilt for the rest of their lives. Other are selfish and have convinced themselves that they've done nothing wrong. I myself have been in this situation on both sides, being bullied and bullying someone else. It's not a great feeling to have and there's no point, which is why I want to change this! I think we need to find a way to show these kids what they've done and what damage they have caused. Most bullying starts out in middle school when people find more and more insecurities about themselves and decide to take it out on others to make those insecurities go away, and to make them feel better about themselves. I think there should be more people in schools that will actually help them, report child bullying issues, and support them through it, and not just sit there thinking that these kind of issues are going to go away. Lately, since the suicides of some children around the country, people are finally deciding to take action and do something about bullying. There's a new law that states bullying is officially illegal! It is distracting in school, and affects people trying to achieve the high academic standards that they should have. You don't have to like everyone, but you should at least try to be nice, and if you don't like a person, then just stay out of their way; it's quite simple. As you can see, there are many reasons why bullying is an issue, why we need to stop it, and what we can do to stop it. I want a bully-free community and I don't want to go to school thinking who might bully me, or who is going to get bullied today. That's not my goal, and it shouldn't be anyone's goal. This should become much more public so something actually gets done about this. Will you join to help?
