Chapter Ten
Hanna Harnett
Part Two

After we had put our clothes away, made our beds, and tried desperately to personalize our rooms, I spent lunch with Dawn, Kate, Britney, and Alicia (the dining with your dormies rule obviously wasn’t enforced… at all) while onlookers and outcasts stared in jealousy at the Alpha table. I was gaining fast status and within the first fifteen minutes of lunch, I kicked Britney out of the Beta spot in the clique (Charlotte spent half of it alone, the second half she spent in her room, probably crying her Cali eyes out. I have no idea how Taylor spent her lunch, maybe beating up some nerds). As we were clearing our trays of the disgusting cafeteria food, Dawn pulled me aside and told me she was going to the party with Jake, and to look for her once I got to the party with Damien. (Yeah, right!) I just nodded and mumbled a half-hearted ‘sure’.
Afterwards, I walked to my dorm with the occasional excited pirouette, and took a bubble-bath in the claw-foot bathtub that had to be a hundred years old. It was chipped and stained, but gave tons of steaming-hot water. With my hair twisted in a (yellow) towel and my body wrapped in another (yellow) towel, I picked out two dresses. Wishing I had my friends there to help me decide, I stared at my options. There was a gorgeous white floral dress from Charlotte Russe, or a less fancy Abercrombie dress with a white racerback top tucked into a navy and white polka-dotted skirt. Sighing and throwing both outfits back into my dresser, I picked out dark jeggings (Hollister) and a pale blue Abercrombie V-neck shirt with bright flowers designed on the front. I paired them with navy braided flip-flops, and my hair was pin-straight and shimmering halfway down my back. The single feather beaded into my hair were blue and black striped, and thin, so it looked more like a headband when I twisted my side-bangs back, which I almost always did. My make-up was pale and perfect, and as I glanced at my reflection in the mirror, I saw Charlotte watching me sullenly, and Taylor looking at me quizzically through slitted eyes. Whatever.
