Chapter Three
I woke up to the smell of
bacon, chocolate chip waffles, and sweet syrup. I yawned and
stretched out my legs; I noticed I was sprawled out on
Adam’s couch and under a lime green blanket.
“Morning,” Adam greeted across from me in the
kitchen.
“You cook?” I
mumbled groggily and rubbed my eyes.
“Not
really. The waffle maker does most of the work for me and
bacon’s easy to make,” he grinned and I sat
up.
“Meh, I like your
food choices anyway. So what movie did you have in
mind?”
“Well, the one
that’s a block away shows old movies…”
I laughed,
“That’s odd. What one do you want to see? DO THEY
HAVE THE NOTEBOOK!?”
“What
notebook…?”
“Are
you serious?”
“Yeah…
what’s this notebook you speak of?”
“OH MY
GOD! We’re going to see it. Forget going to the movies;
we’re renting it.”
“Is it
a chick flick…?”
“No,” I lied
and smiled up at him. “Ple-e-e-e-e-e—”
“Please
don’t,” he grinned and sighed. “Alright, the
library’s a couple blocks away. My car’s at the auto
shop. They said it wasn’t just the gas tank; I have a flat.
I can’t believe I didn’t notice.”
“Will
it be okay?”
“Yeah;
it’ll be fine.” I nodded, and he smiled.
“Breakfast’s ready.”
When we
finished our waffles, bacon, and milk, we headed out to go the
library. He held my hand and started walking outside with me.
“Adam?”
“That’s my
name,” he winked and I rolled my eyes.
“What
are you going to do about—”
“The
car? I already took care of it. I told you that.”
“No,
Adam, listen. What are you going to do about Sarah? Are
you going to tell her you cheat—oh my God! I’m the
other girl!”
“Shay,
it’s okay; I’m going to break up with her when she
returns. I told you that we were having
problems.”
“Are
you sure?”
“Trust
me,” he smiled and pulled my closer to him; his arms around
my waist. “I care about you so much.” He leaned down,
and kissed me gently.

When we
finished watching The Notebook, I looked up at Adam,
“Noah loved Allie so much; wasn’t this the perfect
romance movie?”
“Uh-huh,” he
replied and grinned down at me. “That’ll be
us.”
I blushed,
and just smiled. How was I supposed to know? I cared about Adam a
lot, but after Brian I didn’t know what to believe anymore.
“When am I supposed to go home…?”
“Oh…
Yeah…” Adam rubbed the back of his neck.
“…Tonight…”
“Oh…”
I mumbled and pulled my brows
together.
