With or Without you.
"Let me see!" I reached
for my phone, but he pulled it away. I was inches from his face, so
I kissed him lightly on the lips, smiling. He handed me my phone,
and I went straight to my calls. She called from the hospital. I
dialed the number, and pressed the phone eagerly to my ear. An
unknown voice answered.
"Hello?" she asked.
"Hi! Is Annie there?" I smiled at Mason.
"No, she just left." she said, uneasy.
"SHE'S HOME?!" I picked up the pace, and
started running.
"No, honey. She left the World. She passed on. She
did leave a note for someone named Gracie..." she trailed off.
My heart pounded in my chest, and tears stung my eyes.
"What does it say?" I whispered, slowing
down.
"Dear Gracie, you are an amazing girl. The house
is yours and so is everything inside. I know you're mad that I
left you in your time of need, but you have Mason. He loves you,
don't ruin it. I left something for you in the kitchen, guess
you didn't notice. I love you, Annie." I quietly hung up
and stuck my phone in my pocket. Mason looked at me and went to
grab my hand. I pulled him close to me and cried. I let every
emotion out.
"I'm so sorry..." he ran his hands
through my hair.
"I... I... I didn't get to... say...
goodbye!" I sobbed and tried to get the words out. He picked
me up, and carried me to the house. Once he unlocked it, I closed
my eyes. I didn't want to see the memories. The first time I
walked in there, the time I met her. It was too short.
"I'm bringing you to bed. You can open your
eyes." he dropped me lightly on the bed and I didn't open
them. Tears formed behind my eye lids, and I thought of Annie.
She's with her family now... but I don't have a family.
"I'm moving in." Mason sat down. My eyes flew
open.
"When?"
"My mom will bring my stuff tomorrow." he
smiled. "My clothes, and stuff like that."
"We'll leave Annie's bedroom alone."
I said. He nodded. I hugged him and cried for what it seemed...
hours.
"Wake up, Gracie." Mason shook me.
"Huh?" I rubbed my eyes. Was it all a dream,
was Annie alive?
"Do you want to go to school?" he stared at
me.
"Why wouldn't I?" I asked.
"Well, Annie..." No, it wasn't a dream. I
rolled over, closed my eyes and pulled the blankets over me. Mason
continued getting ready for school, silently. "I'm
leaving, I'll be back around 2:25." I groaned and he
left.
It was 10 when I got up. I put my hair in a messy bun, and
went into the kitchen. I found a little box on the counter, where I
never bothered to look. I opened it, and found a whole wad of money
in it, with a diamond necklace. I pulled out a note and started
reading out loud.
"Oh, Gracie,
How wonderful was it meeting you? I would say, very wonderful.
You've been the only source I had when I was lonely. I could
NEVER thank you enough for caring about me when no one else could.
I left you my life savings, and a diamond necklace from my mother
when I was your age... Use it wisely. I'll miss you.
Love, Annie."
I put the necklace on and touched the smooth diamond pushed into a
silver heart. I let the tears fall down my cheeks, and onto the
floor. Slowly, I picked up the money and hid it somewhere in my
drawers. I knew exactly what to do next.
Reopen the store.
SORRY it's short, and sorry I haven't written! Hectic life
lately. Love you guys!
