All I Ever Wanted
Chapter 2:
Kelly
"Allayla, come on. Get yourself out of bed! It is the first day of school and if you aren't ready to go by the time your father is walking out that door, you're gonna have to walk to school. He's already ready and he's not gonna be late. Now, let's go," I yelled for the fifth time.
It felt like nothing I did could get my daughter out of bed. I just had this feeling that she was never happy with her life. She wasn't really ever excited for anything... She refused to try out for cheerleading. She hated going to the Friday night football games... She never hung out with friends. Never was really into guys or dating. Something was always off.
"Let's go!!" I yelled again. And then finally gave up.
If she was gonna be late and have to walk to school, not my problem. She definitely could be if she wanted.
"Mom! Shut up! I'm getting out of bed! Give my a break!" Allayla yelled back.
"Excuse me, young lady. But you will not talk to me like that. Try again."
"Okay," she said in a sarcastically calm voice. "Mom, don't worry. I'm getting out of bed right now. Love you!!!"
"I give up," I mumbled as I walked out of the room.
I walked to the kitchen to put together a lunch for Allayla and Chris. As I started making the sandwich's, I heard Chris mumbling to himself in the living room.
"Honey, do you need help with something in there?" I asked.
"Yeah... I can't find my list of players..."
He had just hosted tryouts yesterday and he already lost the list of kids who tried out. And let me tell you, that was a long list.
"Oh. That's over on the counter next to the fruit bowl. Lord knows what it was doing over there... You should probably get more organized," I said.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, Kelly. What would I do without you?" He asked with a smile on his face.
"You would probably have to redo try outs," I said, shooting a smile back.
As he walked by, he gave me a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Is Allayla up, yet?" He asked, looking over at the clock.
"Yeah. At least, I'm pretty sure... I woke her up like, an hour ago... But she wouldn't get out of bed.. I heard her walking around her room. So I'm gonna guess and say she's getting ready for school."
"Okay. Well, we have to go soon. I have a big meeting today after school, so you're going to have to pick her up,"
"Alright," I said. "Well, have fun at your meeting. Have a good day at work. What time will you be getting home for dinner? I was thinking we'd just have chicken..."
"I'll probably not be getting home until around seven. We have to pick out players tonight at this meeting. Practice starts in a week. Allayla! Are you ready for school?!" Chris yelled down the hallway.
"God, dad. Yes. Chill," She huffed as she walked into the kitchen. "Look, ya'll. I just wanted to apologize. For real. And my mom, I've been doing some thinking. Cheerleading tryouts are today after school... And I think I'm going to try out. It wouldn't be my first pick, but it'll give me something to do. And I was thinking, maybe I could make some friends or something. I don't know.. Never mind. That last part sounded stupid. Anyway... I'm pretty sure they end at five. So just pick me up around the front," She said as she grabbed an apple and started to turn to walk out the door. "Dad! You coming?"
"Yeah, hun. I'll be right there. Bye. Love you. Have a good day," Chris said as he gave me one last kiss and walked out the front door.
"You too baby!" I said in return, doubting he heard me.
I was so happy at that moment, though, that I didn't care. My baby was going to be trying out for an actual school sport. All I ever wanted was for her to make some friends and join a team or a club of some sort and be happy.
Allayla was a beautiful girl. Her hair was brown and long. It was beautiful wavy but also beautiful when she straightened it. It was thick and shiny. Her eyes were a beautiful bluish green color. She was about 5'5; a half inch taller then me. Her skin was pale but flawless and she had a perfect ski slope nose. She was gorgeous. She just needed to put herself out there more.
I was aware that many of the young boys on the football team had asked Allayla out, but for some reason, she had a strict, no dating football players policy. And it got to the point where almost all of the players would ask her out, and she got so annoyed that Chris would have to make it a rule that they were not aloud to ask her out or even think about it. So the boys stopped and Allayla was content.
As a mother, I worried about her. I wanted her to be happy and grow up with a lot of friends but it never seemed to be on her wish list. That's just always how it was with her.
