My grandfather always loved scratch
tickets. He didn't have much money, but every day he would
jog from their apartment to the convience store to buy some. His
favorite kind was the scrabble one. Where they scratch off the
letters one-by-one to see how many words were on the scratch
ticket. He used to win money on them. One day, he had to have
surgery. Something was wrong with his bladder. When he came out,
he looked great.
Then, they noticed something wrong. He couldn't keep any food
down. They had some tests, and found out he had cancer. He just
had another procedure (surgery) about a week ago. When
he came out, he had tubes from his back to be fed with. He didn't
even need help with his breathing. He had medicine to keep him
comfortable. Then, the next day, when the nurses came in, they
noticed he was in bed, not breathing. They had to put him on
breathe support. When he started breathing again, they put tubes
in his nose to help him breathe. He wasn't doing good. The day
after that, we were taking our Mom's boyfriend out to dinner. We
got a call from our grandmother, saying that my grandfather
wasn't doing really bad, and was going to die soon. Probably in
the next few weeks.
Today, we are going to visit my
grandfather in the hospital, which is more than one hour
away.
I am going to bring
him:
His favorite scratch tickets.
