I was walking on the beach, trying to clear my head. I was an absolute mess. I don’t think I have had an actual conversation with anyone in five days. Sighing, I made my way to the sand dunes. I was too upset to do anything. My baby was dead.

I approached one of the dunes, seeing that it was taken. This whole damn town was too crowded. Then I realized it was Arianna. Her long black hair spun around her, and she had her eyes shut. Like she was trying to escape too.

I walk over. I needed to talk to someone. I didn’t want to scare her though. Knowing her, she probably knew karate and could take me down.

“I know you’re there Logan,” she said simply.

“Oh. Uh. Hi,” I said uncertainly.

“Do you need something?” she asked.

“Just…needed someone to talk to,”

She opened her eyes. She glared at me for a moment, then her expression softened. “Sit,” she motioned.

We sat there for a while, watching the waves and the fishermen who got out on the water early.

Without thinking, I blurted out, “How was the appointment?”

Arianna winced.

“Sorry. Shouldn’t have done that,”

Arianna sighed. “No. Hannah’s wrong. You deserve to know. Even though I kind of hate you, it’s your baby too.”

“Um…thanks,” I said unsurely.

Ari rolled her eyes. “I’m not going to beat you up. Relax.”

“Not too sure about that…”

She chuckled.

“So what happened?” I asked impatiently.

She took a deep breath. “She’s keeping the baby.”

My heart skipped a beat. Keeping the baby? My baby was going to be alive?

A giant smile stretched across my face. I my eyes filled with tears. I knew this wasn’t something to be happy about. I was too young to be a father. But, my baby was alive.

Arianna’s glare came back. “What are you smirking about? You have no idea how hard your life just got a hell of a lot harder.”

I nodded. “I know. But my baby’s alive.”
