He was drinking at a party
On a raging New Year's Eve
He had to be home early
He knew he had to leave
"Honey do you need a ride"
His girlfriend sweetly said
He just smiled back at her
And quickly shook his head
"I've got to leave right now
So I'll just take my car...
But don't you worry, sweetheart
Cause I won't drive too far"
Unaware he'd been drinking,
She watched him drive away
He knew that this was wrong
But he did it anyway
"I only had a couple drinks
I know that I'll survive"
He kept saying in his head
As he went for this short drive
The alcohol took over him
He wasn't thinking straight
He assumed that there was no one
Who'd be driving out this late
He ran all of the stop lights
As he sped along the road
Never thinking of the pain
This night would soon behold
But out of nowhere, came a car
He screamed as headlights flashed
He flew out of the windshield
As both of their cars crashed
He woke up laying on the ground
Sirens screaming in the night
He was bleeding quite a bit
But he knew he'd be alright
With dread, he saw the other car
That had rolled down the hill
He knew this was his fault
As he started feeling ill
But when he saw the body
Tears started falling down
As he looked down to find
His dead girlfriend on the ground.
I found this on a site so its not my poem. But I
thought it was inspirational.
