    The Escape
    Chapter 1 - Eros
The music around me beat loudly, shaking me to the bone.
My best friend Julie sat next to me in the drivers seat with tears streaming down her face and her knuckles white on the steering wheel.
I leaned my head back on the headrest, closed my eyes and waited for her to pull over and turn the music down.
Another fifteen minutes later, she did.
When she'd asked me to come over, her voice sounding shaky over the phone, I didn't question it because that was an unspoken rule for us, we were always there for each other, even if we didn't know what for yet.
So, when she pulled over on the gravel road, with tears still running widely down her face and her short hair sticking to her cheeks, I looked her in the eyes with concern and spoke quietly, "Julie," I said.
"Eros... I-- f-ck." Julie pressed her forehead against the steering wheel, unable to speak and her hands still on the wheel.
I could see her squeeze her eyes shut before opening them and breathing in through her mouth.
"Your mom told me about the cancer," she finally spoke, her voice was course.
My stomach dropped and so did my eyes.
"I'm so sorry you had to find out like that, Julie," I said to her, looking up at my best friend.
I didn't know if she would understand how sorry I was or even if I was sorry, all I knew was that I couldn't believe that I'd kept if from her for over two months and how much i regretted it.
She smiled sorrily at me and I knew instantly she did understand and forgive me.
"I'm always here for you, Eros," she said. "No matter what sh-t you're going through, I'll be here to get you through it."

    The Escape
    Chapter 2 - Eros
"Mom, I'm going to go to the movies with Julie." I hollered before opening the front door.
"Don't even think about it Eros!" She yelled from the kitchen.
I stopped and heard her walk down the hall to the front door where she stopped, a damp rag in her hand.
"Remember what happened last time you were out? I'm not going to let that happen again." She said.
I knew what she was referring to.
Last week, I went out to the mall with Julie and after only thirty minutes I fainted.
"It's not going to happen again, mom." I groaned, annoyed with her opinion.
She gave me a look like she was never going to give in.
"You can't just keep me cooped up here!" I yelled, my blood boiling inside of me.
"Eros, you're sick! Practically every time you go out of the house I get a call from the hospital," she whimpered. "Do you have any idea what that's like?!"
    "Mom--"
"It's terrifying, Eros." For once in my life I saw my mother as broken.
She'd always been so put together and strong, but her eyes at this moment showed a weakness.
I was still angry, I didn't understand how she felt at all.
"Keeping me inside is not going to make me better." I muttered before walking past her and up the stairs to my room.
I heard her sigh at the bottom of the stairs.
My blood pulsed hot through my veins and I felt bile rise in my throat when I got into my room and closed the door behind me.
I groaned and emptied the contents in my stomach in the toilet, brushing my teeth a minute later.
I texted Julie to tell her that I couldn't come over.
I looked out my bedroom window at the house next to mine, there was a window directly across from mine and a boy standing in the middle of what looked to be an empty bedroom, no bed, nightstand, or furniture.
I also noticed a moving truck in the front of that house, an older woman standing by the end holding a small cardboard box and a man around her age carrying a box into the house, where I couldn't see.
I looked back at the boy standing in the room, he was looking around, at the floor maybe.
A second later he looked at me.
My eyes widened and I smiled but looked down at my lap, ashamed.
I looked up a moment later to find him looking at something behind him, then leaving the room.
I knew one thing as I crawled into bed that night, I was intrigued by this in the window.

    The Escape
    Chapter 3 - Eros
    - One Week Later -
I looked out of my window at the boy next door, he was sitting on his bed, facing me but his head down and his hands on the back of his neck.
He was wearing a blue t-shirt with black sweatpants with the name of a school on them.
In that moment, I did something courageous.
I took out my notebook from under my mattress and flipped to an empty page,
I wrote 'hi' in large letters with a black marker and held it up to the window, hoping this boy would look up.
I sat like that for a minute, getting impatient.
Right when I was about to put the notebook back down on my lap, he looked up, right at me then at the notebook I was holding against the window.
Our houses were a maximum of ten feet apart.
He smiled and stood up, walking away and out of my view.
I frowned, looking down at my notebook which was now in my lap.
A bit later I looked up.
The boy about my age sat on his bed facing me, holding a notebook up to the window with the word 'hello' on it in a blue marker.
I beamed, flipping a page on my notebook and writing 'my name's Eros' on it, holding it up for him to see.
He read it and wrote something on his paper, holding it up.
    It read 'I'm Peter'.
I wrote back 'is your last name Parker, like Spier-Man?'
I held it up with a smile, he looked at it and laughed nodding but not writing anything.
My eyes widened. 'Seriously?' I wrote back.
    'Yes'.
I wrote back 'I can't tell if that's unfortunate or fortunate' and held the notebook up, when I did however, he wasn't there.
I frowned at the window then at my notebook.
I ripped out the piece of paper and stuck a piece of tape to it, sticking it to the window so he could see.

Bless this mess. Chapter 2. Alison's POV.
The almost-fall air hit me right when I stepped out of my house, sending cool shivers down my body. Sadly, this was just the beginning for the cold weather here in freezing and boring Minnesota.
My phone vibrated on the dashboard of my Audi A3, I picked it up and answered without hesitation, the only people that would be calling me are Michael and Sophia.
"Hello?" I answered, pressing my phone to my ear.
"Hey, Ally," I heard Michael's voice on the other end, "plan on coming over today?" I could almost see him smiling.
"Already on my way." I laughed.
"You know, if it was anyone else saying that I would be creeped out." I heard him chuckle at the other end.
I laughed and he went on talking about something he did last week and how his mom had been telling him to visit because she hasn't seen him for a while.
I cursed when someone cut me off on the highway, getting a laugh out of Michael. "You're a terrible driver!" He joked.
"Am not!" I hollered into the phone. "Don't tempt me to bring Soph," I threatened, knowing he didn't like her OCD attitude, she often annoyed me as well but apparently I don't have as low of a tolerance as Michael, which is surprising.
"Fine, fine. You're an amazing driver."
"Whatever," I smiled. "I'll be there soon."
"Okay, see you soon, Ally." I heard him say before sliding my phone back on the dashboard and continuing on my way to Michael's apartment.
    ----
I walked up to Michael's apartment door. The building was old, ugly, and incredibly cheap, but he didn't mind about the old and ugly, he was ecstatic about the cheap part.
I heard music blasting from his stereo and even through the loud noise, Michael belting the words to 'Sail' by AWOLNATION, his husky voice practically screaming along with the singer. I held back a laugh and let myself in. He didn't hear me shut the door because his singing didn't stop nor did the terrible dancing around in the kitchen with the oven beeping that something was done.
At this point I couldn't hold back my laughing anymore, he stopping in mid spin and his eyes shot to me, a mild blush appearing on his face. "Nice dancing," I chuckled, after turning the stereo down.
"I get some of my moves from you." Michael winked, opening the oven.
"I thought we'd gotten passed that." I joked back, blushing and remembering when he'd walked into my house to me dancing and doing the dishes.
    "Nope." He smirked.
I rolled my eyes and plopped down on his slouching couch. "What'd you make?"
    "Apricot chicken..." He trailed off.
I shifted in the couch to face behind me and towards Michael. "You cook?"
"...But I didn't have enough apricot jam so I just added some orange Gatorade, I mean, how different is it really?" He shrugged, handing me a plate of chicken.
"I'm not eating it." I whimpered, looking at the chicken. It looked normal but now that I knew it had Gatorade in it there's no way in hell I'm eating it.
"C'mon Ally," he bit a mouthful off my chicken. "It's not that bad." I could tell that was forced, his face got a little red. And a second later he was coughing his way to the sink. I couldn't help but laugh. He spit it out and took the plate away from me.
"So, how was it?" I asked, wiggling my eyebrows.
"F-ck off." He smirked, throwing the rest of the chicken in the garbage.
"Just warm up some ramen and we'll watch Shark Week." I smiled, turning on the TV.
He put two bowls of ramen in the microwave.

So, what school are you going to this year?" Michael asked with a mouthful of ramen meshing some words together.
"Classy, Mikey." I sneered, turning the TV volume down right as a giant shark devoured a screaming person . to tell him about school. "I think I'm going to Wayzata."
He gave me a concerned look. "Changing again?" I've changed schools every year and decided that I might as well spend my last year in high school at one of the top schools in the state.
"What's wrong with it? You went there..." I trailed off and he shrugged, turning up the volume again.
    --
"Ally? Is that you?" I heard my dad holler from the kitchen when I walked in the door.
"Yeah, it is." I walked into the kitchen to him sitting on a counter stool reading a paper.
"I was thinking we could visit your cousin in South Carolina this Christmas." He suddenly said, not looking up from he paper.
I stopped in my tracks because I think he forgot that we're supposed to be dreading Christmas, because my cousins are stupid and hate me, and because I couldn't think of anything worse than that day.
    "No." I stated firmly.
"What do you mean?" He looked up from the paper.
"I'm not going." My throat blocked up and the words came out kind of funny, like I had a rock in my throat or something.
His brow creased like it was the worst thing that I said no to his command. It's not the worst thing I've done, dad, I wanted to say. He just looked at me for a little while and I pursed my lips.
    "Ally--"
"Did you forget or something?" I yelled before turning around and walking proudly to my room. Proud wasn't exactly the perfect word to describe it, but it's what I felt.
I heard a tap on my door thirty minutes after I'd let myself fall to the floor and curled against the side of my bead, my knees tucked up by my chest and my arm running up and down my calves fo some comfort.
    "What?!" I snapped.
My dad stepped in with his half grey hair and soft face. "I want you to go to Providence this year." He said quietly before closing the door behind him.
"So I don't even have a choice in that?!" I screamed at the door, grabbing a pillow and tossing it as hard as I could without much effect.
I tried to sleep that night without much success, tossing and turning, trying not to keep my eyes open. At around two Soph called me talking about how she needed something that will make her stop wanting to fix something, with that I knew she meant alcohol but she hated saying the word because she thought it sounded funny. I searched through my closet, finding a sweatshirt and athletic shorts to wear.
Within ten minutes I walked silently out the door and started my car, going slowly out of my driveway then driving on my way to Sophia's.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I was walked out of my room I was greeted by my newly persistent dad.
"Oh hey dad, nice to see you." I showed him my sarcastic face and briskly walked past him and started down the hall.
"I want you to get a job on the weekends, Ali." He stated another demand.
I heaved a big sigh and didn't protest. With one week till school started I wanted as many excuses to leave the house as I could. "Alright."
He nodded stiffly and muttered something on the lines of 'I'm going to work.'
With my dad gone and my car parked in the drive-way, begging for me to leave, I gave in. I decided to take the chance to look for a job.
I arrived at the mall within fifteen minutes of leaving my house. I slowly made my way into a Chipotle near the entrance, dragging out the process a little.
I walked up to the counter where a young man looked at me briefly. "Can I help you?" He asked, rolling a burrito out.
"Um, are you hiring?" I asked, edging toward the counter more.
"No... sorry. I hear Wendy's is though." I pursed my lips in response and walked out to find a Wendy's. I found one on the opposite side of the mall. My legs ached from walking and I could feel myself getting more tired by the second.
I walked into the Wendy's with as much energy of a sloth, but putting on a smile when I'd walked up to the counter for the chance of maybe getting hired.
"Hi, can I help you?" The woman behind the counter asked.
"Yeah..." I breathed. "Are you, uh, hiring?"
"Yes we are! There's applications over there by the ketch-up." She smiled brightly and I saw a bit of her magenta lipstick on her tooth. I wanted to puke.
"Thanks so much." I muttered in a half whisper.
I snatched a copy of an application and folded it up in my hands before walking out. "Thanks again." I hollered back to the woman at the desk.
"You're welcome, sweetheart." I could still picture that lipstick on her tooth.
    I dialed Michael's number immediately.
"Guess who's applying for a job?" I yelled into the phone. I could heart Michael laugh at the other end.

Two days after I handed in the application for Wendy's, an unfamiliar number came up on my phone.
"Hello?" I answered, flopping down on my bed.
"Alison Jones?" A voice said on the other end.
"Yeah..?" I answered meekly, my brow creasing. I tried to remember where I've heard this voice before.
I heard the man at the other end scoff. "I'm a worker at Wendy's and we just wanted to let you know that you got the job--"
"Oh my god!" I almost screamed in excitement.
"--And we were wondering if you could come in so I can like introduce you to your schedule and stuff. You'll be working around school hours right?" He asked.
"Um, yeah." I calmed myself down. "I'll be on my way in like twenty minutes, is that alright?" I asked.
"Yup." He popped his 'p'. I remembered someone in my past doing that same thing but I couldn't think of who. The man on the other end hung up and I set my phone down on my bed, dashing to the bathroom to take a quick shower.
"I got a job, dad!" I yelled downstairs to where I expected my dad to be. I closed the bathroom door and hopped in the shower.
    --
I slipped on my favorite pair of jeans, knowing I probably wore them too much, A grey comfy sweater, my favorite off-white beanie, and a yellow wrap scarf to protect me from the chilly windy weather. I knew I'd soon have to start wearing a coat in order to go outside. I looked at myself in the mirror once more, deciding to put on a few of my favorite silver rings. Before walking out the door I put on a pair of brown wedges. I hugged myself for warmth as the wind nipped at me on my short walk to my car. Once inside, the wind was blocked by my door and I started on my way to Wendy's for work.
The warm mall made me drop my arms from their tucked position immediately and I walked briskly to Wendy's.
The woman who I'd met the first time I came wasn't behind the counter, in fact, no one was. My brow furrowed in confusion and I was up to the counter, planning on waiting. A minute later a boy maybe four years older than me walked in from behind the counter.
"Sorry," he sniffed, not looking up, but getting an apron from under the counter. There was something familiar about this black-haired boy in front of me.
    "It's alright." I mumbled.
When he looked up at me with his flashy green eyes and pupils dilated, I knew right away who it was. I coudn't help but cringe.
    "Oh, hey Ali." Brandon smirked.

    "Oh, hey Ali." Brandon smirked.
My eyes widened and I couldn't help but hear a gasp escape my mouth. My mind went back to the night I turned fifteen at that party that Jill hosted for my birthday. I opened my mouth but nothing came out because Brandon was in front of me and he was exactly the same as he was two years ago.
"Cat got your tongue?" He winked.
That's when his smell of pot entered my nose and it all hit me again. I tried to smile but I'm sure it looked something closer to the jokers face than a smile. "Right."
"Well here's your schedule," he handed me a piece of paper with a grease stain on the left corner. "Um, you'll probably be working windows for most of the time you work here. Boss's office is back there," he pointed vaguely behind him and blinked slowly a few times, like he was out of this world.
"Alright thanks." I mumbled before turning on my heel and speed-walking out.
"Wait, Ali!" I heard him yell.
I turned around cautiously. "What?" It came out meaner than I'd intended but in the back of my mind he deserved it.
He said something I didn't expect him to. "It's good to see you."
I didn't say anything back because I didn't know what would do that simple sentence justice. Would it be 'I don't forgive you'? Maybe it'd be 'it's good to see you too'.
When I got in my car the first thing I knew to do was driving to Michael's. So I did that, my brow creased the entire way there and my knuckles white on the steering wheel.
I stood in front of Michael's door for a good five minutes, every memory after that night came flooding back up to meeting Michael at the end of that school year. After five minutes and no tears shed I believed it safe to open the door. But once I'd knocked and Michael faced me with a smile on his face, the tears came running out of my eyes.
I took a step towards him and he opened his arms and brought me into a comforting hug, not even asking yet what was wrong. I knew he'd give me time to tell him.

"What is it? What's wrong?" Michael asked after a long and comforting hug. I took a step back from him and took a few deep breaths.
"I think I want Sophia here too." I said quietly.
"Alright, I'll call her." He muttered, a little disappointment visible on his face. Sophia coming over meant he'd have to make sure that all his dishes were done and orangize the few pillows on his couch a certain way so she wouldn't freak out.
So an hour later after a bit of straightening of his apartment, Sophia arrived.
"That pillow's in the wrong spot. God Michael!" She muttered sharply. Sophia noticed my swollen eyes and frowned. "Michael told me there was something wrong."
"Brandon's back. And he's working where I work." I knew it didn't sound like a huge deal and I knew it probably wasn't, but I also knew they wouldn't judge how I felt about Brandon moving back.
Before I knew it, Sophia had enveloped me into a tight hug. "I'm so sorry," she mumbled to my neck, her voice a little by my yellow scarf.
I looked past her to Michael who had a worried look on his face with his lower lip tucked in a little at one side and his eyebrows squished together, mostly because he didn't know who Brandon was to me. "Where is it you work?" Michael questioned.
Sophia then broke off from the hug and stood next to Michael. "Yeah," she chimed in.
    "Wendy's." I answered, a little confused.
"How about we stop by every once and a while? To make sure you're like... okay." He gave a half smile and I nodded.
"I can't stop over on Wednesdays, Fridays, or Saturdays though." She gave me a sorry look. "Volleyball and therapy."
"That's okay," I smiled, "you guys don't have to if you can't."
"I'll be there as much as I can." Michael reassured.
"Thank you." I mouthed because I didn't feel like talking.
Two hours later Sophia got up to leave, hugging me another time and giving Michael a few tips on how to make sure that his glass cups don't get the white marks she's annoyed with.
"I think I'm going to go as well." I smiled at Michael and gave him an appreciative hug.
    "Alright, by Ali." He smiled.
I walked out the door and took a few steps before the door opened again and Michael popped his head out frowning.
"Are you, uh... ever going to tell me what happened?" He asked.
"Probably soon. Not tonight though, I should get home." I answered, turning back around and heading home.

"Hi, Alison!" I heard a greeting chirped cheerfully from behind the counter.
"Hi," I choked out to Brandon, who looked like he'd had about five coffees and and energy bar.
    "Why so gloomy?" He chuckled.
I rolled my eyes and didn't answer but didn't answer him. Instead, I walked over to the windows and sat down, putting on the gaudy head-set and spoke as energetic as I could, "hi, welcome to Wendy's, how can I help you?"
Time passed and then came my thirty minute break.
"Ali!" I heard my name from in front of the counter as I sat in the break room with my feet up on the circular table. Michael stood outside, seeing me through the square glass window in the door. I motioned for him to come in with a smile and picked at my nails some more.
"Hey!" I beamed. "God, I haven't seen you in forever."
Michael laughed and sat in the chair across from the table. "How's that school? Still sucks, right?"
"After two weeks, I expected to be at least a little bit used to her b-tchiness... but nope, not used to it." I pouted.
"What about that guy that bumped into you?" He asked, his eyes flickering up from his lap where his hands sat.
"Cory? He's said 'hi' like once or twice, but I haven't gotten my screen fixed." I pulled my phone out of my pocket and set it on the table.
"Damn, that sucks." Michael chuckled once. We were silent for a minute and I went on picking my grubby nails. "Has Soph--"
The door swung open and in walked Brandon chewing a piece of gum. "Who's this?" He motioned to Michael.
"I'm Michael," Michael smiled up at Brandon who looked down at him.
    "Brandon." He answered simply.
Michael's face darkened at realization that this was the Brandon who I came crying to his apartment about. He looked at Brandon with something resembling a glare.
"Well... hi, Michael." He nodded towards him. "Sup, babe?" He looked at me and winked wickedly. I scoffed and focused on my nails more intently.
"Dude, lay off." Michael muttered defensively. My brow furrowed and I looked up at Michael who was starring at Brandon.
"What are you? Her boyfriend? Jesus..." Brandon replied, annoyed.
We were silent for a moment before I answered for him. "Yeah... he is." I lied easily and smiled at Michael whose eyes were wide.

    MONSTER
    Brooke’s POV // Chapter Twenty-Seven
I saw the same white flash I saw a moment ago streaking towards us. A white wolf, teeth bared, and steam spewing from its nostrils making a grand entrance right for Ben's back. "Ben!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, with all my strength and might, pulling him aside as fast as I could.
The wolf lunged forward and grabbed hold of Ben's shoulders from behind, making us both topple forward on top of the beast.
I stood up as quick as I could, looking down at Ben pinning the white wolf down, I saw a flash of a wicked idea appear in Ben's glistening green eyes. He pulled something out of his pocket and jumped off the beast, it made a ran for it but before it could make it five steps it crumpled down like a falling statue.
Ben bolted forward and immediately took off his jacket to cover it's lower half.
"Ben what--" but before I finished my sentence I realized what he did. He made him shift. With the same injection Drew used on me and him back at the cabin.
After a minute of shaking and shrinking the white wolf had turned into a face I barely recognized.
    "Caleb?" I shrieked.
He bared his teeth like an animal. "You're dead to me! Your whole family!"
My eyes widened in shock and Ben's grip on Caleb tightened to pin him down harder. Thoughts raced through my head as to why this boy I hardly knew would want me dead.
"You're stupid mother, the sl*t she is. F*ck you!" He snarled.
"What is he talking about?" Ben looked at me with concern.
"No idea." I answered, looking with blue eyes at this deranged man.
"I know her intentions with my father!" He yelled at me, shaking under Ben's grip. "F*cking gold digger. She can't take my families money without consequence!"
I was getting more confused by the minute.
    "Call 911." Ben ordered.
I nodded and did as he commanded.
    //
    6 Months Later
The accusations Caleb had held against my mother were, regrettably, true. She did marry his father for the money. His actions toward my brother, however, were purely out of jealousy.
Through the years my brother secretly was with Amy, Caleb also had feelings for her. They built up over time and the moment he knew that my mother would be marrying his father, things snapped. There's no forgiving something like that and there's no getting over the fact that someone hated someone you loved is even harder to get over. But with time the only thing that will matter to me was that Jay cared. He cared for me, music, life, Amy, and his old baseball hat. And those are the only things that will matter in ten years when we're back at Jay's grave, holding a memorial. We won't talk about how someone hated him, or how he caused a string of terrible events. We'll remember the good he did, because unlike me and Ben and Caleb, he wasn't a Monster.

    Ben’s POV // Chapter Twenty-Five
I walked into the crowded church, dark red roses were the centerpiece on a small table in the entry way that also had a panflit about Jay. I didn't know him well, but after a week of talking to Brooke in the hospital, her asking me the night she woke up, I felt obligated to be here for her. I, however, haven't told her what I found out the night of her heart attacks.
I walked further into the church and down the aisle where Brooke, Amy, Brooke's little brother Jamie, and her father stood.
"Hey," I spoke quietly to Brooke. I know it didn't really seem like the right thing to say at a funeral to someone like Brooke, especially after how much we knew each other now, after talking all that time in the hospital. So, right when I said it I cringed because I knew I should have said something like 'I'm sorry for your loss', or 'I'm here for you', because both of those were true.
She looked up at me with her big, glossy, blue eyes, and smiled sadly. "Hi."
I looked down at my black button up shirt and dress pants, not knowing what to say. "How-" I cleared my throat, "how are you?" I asked, gesturing to her leg which was still in a bulky cast, the shoe she must have been wearing was kicked off and lying on its side next to her.
"I'm fine." Brooke stated, eying her shoe with a glare.
"Well I should- I should go sit down." I pointed with my thumb behind me. Before I was fully turned around Brooke's arm stopped me.
"Could you... sit with me?" She asked.
"Yeah, sure." I smiled, picking up her shoe.
"C'mon, Jamie." She whispered sweetly to her little brother. He trudged over to us and followed as we made our way to our seats, like everyone else as the piano played.
Something startled me when we sat down, something I didn't expect, Brooke's hand tucked under mine. Instead of wanting to pull away I just wanted to snuggle closer and maybe get to feel her head on my shoulder. I squeezed her hand and didn't let go, even when the music stopped and we were asked to stand.

    Ben’s POV // Chapter Twenty-One
If I was outside in the freezing cold for so long, why didn't I shift?
Two hours later I'm still sitting in the same dumpy chair, but three more people with me... plus a kid, Drew, Brooke's dad, some woman named Amy, and Brooke's younger brother Jamie. I'd finished off my pack of cigarettes and had been too tired to get another. Drew was chatting on the phone with someone and Amy sat on the tiled floor talking in a baby voice to Jamie. Without a word Brooke's dad stood up and walked away, looking worn. I shook my head at this entire situation; Brooke in the hospital, me hitting her with my car on accident, the giant hole I've started creating in my inner cheek, and the fact that her dad just walked away.
Suddenly a nurse in purple scrubs walked close to our group. "She's awake." We all stirred in our seats. "Is there someone I could talk to about what happened to her?"
"Me." I answered sharply, she gave me a quizzical look. "I was there." Her look softened and I followed her down the hall and around a corner, she stopped in front of a door.
"Can't I go in?" I asked her, eyeing the door.
"First I need to talk to you about the accident, and what happened during surgery." She stated.
"She's okay... right?" I gave her a questionable look.
She nodded and I relaxed. "During surgery Brooke had a heart attack, and we think she also had a major adrenaline rush during the accident, causing a small heart attack right after which explains the shaking." I could feel my brow crease instinctively. Guilt, that's all I felt at the moment.
"So, an adrenaline rush just makes your heart pump really fast, right?" Why didn't I think of this before?
"Yes, that's correct. You can go see her now. She has no permanent brain damage that we know of yet, though when she sees people we might notice things." The nurse rambled on.
"I-I'll be right back, okay?" I flashed her a smile before dashing down the hall to find Drew.

    Brooke’s POV // Chapter Twenty-Two
I opened my eyes slowly, my mind taking in the building pain in my head and leg. Doctors in scrubs surrounded me, one with a mask on. No one I knew seemed to be in the room. What's going on? Immediately after my eyes fully opened the doctors swarmed around me, filling me in with the details. I only remembered one or two of the things.
"You had a heart attack... There was an accident... He called 911 right away..." I only caught on to a few things. He?
Once I found my voice, buried beneath all this pain in my head, I spoke, "who called 911? Who hit me?"
"Some of the memory of the accident should come back to you once your head fully heals, but you might never be able to remember the entire accident." The doctor informed me.
"Who hit me?" I asked again.
He stood up straight and looked at his charts. "A man named...Ben Young? Does the name sound familiar?"
    I nodded.
"He reports that he slid on the ice and couldn't stop his truck, the police went over the area, all of his reports are true, skid marks and all." He nodded reassuringly.
"Oh, where is he?" I asked, looking around the room, my neck hurting from looking behind the doctor.
"He rushed off and said he'd be back soon. I'll go and get you some pain medicine.
I nodded thankfully and the doctor walked out of the room, leaving me alone to my dangerous thoughts.

    Brooke’s POV // Chapter Twenty-Three
The door burst open to reveal a guilty looking Ben, with a hint of cheerfulness in his eyes and a smile creeping it's way on his face. I gave him a curious look and sat up straighter in the hospital bed. Reality must have hit him because a second later his smile dropped and guilt crossed his face once again.
"Hey," Ben smiled sympathetically. "How... how are you feeling?" He slouched into a chair and scooted it forward.
"Could you please explain to me what happened?" I asked calmly, my voice feeling stretched and strained like something was holding it back.
"After you left me and Drew had an argument so I left the cabin. I was driving and I swear, I... I didn't see you... I'm so sorry." His voice shook at the last words and I instantly forgave him. His glowing green eyes were pleading and full of guilt.
"It's okay, Ben." I smiled the best I could without hurting my scratched cheek more than it already did. "I'm all in one piece, I'm going to be fine. It was an accident." I reassured.
"There's one other thing, though." Ben looked down at his hands, then up at me, a sad smile on his face. "I have a theory, but we're going to have to test it."
"What are you talking about?" My brow wrinkled.
And as if it was timed, Kate marched into the room, her face blotchy and tearstained.
"Brooke! You're okay!" She yelled, the doctor came in after her with a much slower pace.
"Yeah, I'm fine." At that moment Jamie entered my mind. "Where's Jamie?" I asked.
"He's fine he's with Amy." Kate stated, pushing a lock of her blonde hair in front of her shoulder.
    "Amy?" I asked, curious.
    "She's Jay's--"
"She needs some time to recover, once she's fully better we can tell her all the news, this all must be a big shock to her." The doctor interrupted. "I'm sorry for your loss," he added in an undertone. With that the doctor ushered Kate out of the room. I looked back at the chair Ben was in but he was gone.

    Brooke’s POV // Chapter Eleven
There was a knock on my door, swift and sharp. I brow scrunched and I stood up from the couch where I was sitting, watching Jamie play with some of his toys. Of course, my dad was working.
I opened the door, letting it hit the wall it was on with a thud. Two officers stood in front of me, both in black police uniforms. I felt a crease for between my eyebrows.
“W-what’s going on?” I asked, looking behind me to see if Jamie was paying attention. Luckily his transformers toy held much more interest to him.
“Ma’am do you know Jay Nelson?” One asked in a calm voice.
“Uh… yeah, he’s my brother.” I answered flatly.
“We’re going to need you to come with us.” His tone was flat, just like in the movies. “Is there some place that the boy could stay overnight?”
“Um,” I thought for a moment. “No, he can just come with us right?”
The officer pursed his lips but nodded sternly.
“Jamie!” I hollered for my baby brother to come over here. “Hey, buddy.” I smiled brightly at him as one of the officers tapped his foot. I pick Jamie up, holding him to my side and gave the impatient officer a glare.
    “Okay, let’s go.”

    Brooke’s POV // Chapter Fifteen
I followed Ben out of the forest, my nose skimming the ground for recognition. My eyes stung with tears beginning to escape, but I kept them in. All four of my legs still ached from running and Ben was silent in front of me, his black tail hanging low and blending in with the dark scenery around us. I only had one question on my mind; how did he find me?
The second thing on my mind was Jamie. I wondered if he was okay, or even home. My brain hurt from thinking about him and Jay so much in so little time. Then there was my mom's wedding, my father, still oblivious to Jay's death. I followed Ben unknowingly, we stayed a few meters in the forest so people couldn't see us.
Ben's pace quickened, mine followed instinctively. My sharp eyes wandered around, hardly taking in all the dark blobs. Snow seemed to be the only thing I could see on the ground, lines shot straight front the ground resembling trees. Ben's pace quickened again into a full sprint, catching me off guard and I shot forward to catch up. Even though we couldn't speak I could tell he was frustrated about something, his ears tucked back so far he looked threatening and tail sticking straight, he looked like he was ready at any moment to fight.
The trees cleared in one quick moment, something I've never seen in the forests near my house where I usually hunt in. At one end of the clearing was a house or a shack; a cottage. I slowed my pace to a stop and whined in protest. Ben's wolf stopped and growled for me to follow. I did.
