We did the same thing at my school. I've been there for five freaking years, but it seems the only thing that they could up with was "smart".

I D E N T I T Y

Prologue

I finish the lap and climb out the pool, my wild hair flinging water everywhere as I wring it out. Grabbing my towel, I make my way to the locker room. Tonight, I was the last person left at the club, and the sound of my wet footsteps echoes off the walls.

The silence is eerie. It's not a peaceful silence that leaves me free to think. It's a dangerous one. The kind that creates that chilling feeling. The kind that causes people to look behind their back every 5 seconds to check if anything is out of order. The kind that makes them feel like someone's watching from the darkness of the shadows.

A tingling sensation spreads through me when I finally step into the locker room, like I passed through an invisible barrier. Someone, or something, was in the locker room with me, discreetly watching my every move, waiting for the perfect moment to act. I glance around the dim room, but there is nothing. Not a single sign of danger, aside from the nagging doubt in the back of my mind.

A while passes and apart from stubbing my toe, nothing of significance occurred. I dismiss my earlier panic as paranoia. It's late and I'm tired. Scaring myself with my overactive imagination wasn't helping. I shiver.

Finally locating my locker, I reach out to spin the dial, only to realize my locker isn't fully closed. Anyone else would have overlooked the tiny detail, but I recall slamming the door after stuffing my bag in. My locker should be closed all the way, not almost closed. No one else is supposed to know my lock combination, but someone had clearly gone through the contents of my bag.

I swing my locker open, gasping when I notice the folded note. With nimble fingers, I slowly flip it open.

"Watch out. They're coming for you."
