Today My Grandma
Held My Hand And Asked Me
"Honey, Pray To God With Me"
So I Held Her And Hand And She Prayed Aloud.
I Listened To Her Pray To God To Relieve Her
Pain, Because She Has Many, Many Health
Issues. I Didn't Think At First What She Actually
Meant By Relieve Her Pain Until She Said This:
" Lord, My Almighty Savior, Please Allow Me To Enter Your Kingdom And Glory So I May Live Amongst You."
At That Moment I Realized What She Meant By
"Relieve My Pain"
And Hearing That Made Me Think Of All The Times
I Went To Hang Out With Friends While MY Grandma
Was At Home, And All The Times I Could Have Been
Playing Cards With Her, Or Even Just Talking.
So I Realized Something REALLY Important,
You Shouldn't Wait Until Someone You Love Is Gone To
Regret Not Being There For Them,
When You Should Be There For Them Because You
Already Know That One Day They'll Be Gone.

What your english teacher thinks it meant: The author clearly is using symbolism here. The chair was black to show the girl is in a dark place, a place of desperation. She is sitting on the chair for support, since she is physically and mentally unstable.
