One of my best friends has Leukimia,
(Don't worry this isn't one of those 'please rate' kind of quotes.
Those are really pointless, and stupid. I just wanted to tell about one of my friends. You don't have to rate, or anything)
And I never really understood what it was,
or how painful Leukimia really is until I
met Tommy. In the 6th grade, we became really
close friends. He was telling me how they finally
got rid of the cancer, and he was so happy. He got
to go through everything without worrying about his
Leukimia. Then in the middle of the year, he wrote me a note saying
"I relapsed."
or something like that. And i didnt know what
that meant, so i asked him and he said that it means the
cancer is back. I felt terrible, he was the most happiest kid in the school,
just doing his thing. His attitude changed too, he seemed kinda depressed;
which i wouldnt blame him.
Towards the end of the year, he had to leave the school
because he had to get a bone marrow.
And i never knew what that was either, until this woman came into
the school to explain to all of us. She mentioned how he developed
huge bruises all over his arms, because of the cancer.
She said that everything went well with the procedure and
that he was doing fine. She said that he still does his
magic tricks, and stuns the nurses and doctors at his hospital.
he missed the rest of 6th grade, and all of 7th grade,
because he had to have Kemo therapy. And I guess when
you have kemo, or something, the slightest cold could kill him.
So he couldnt come in to the school until 8th grade, which he did.
He lost all of his hair, and had to wear a hat for a while.
Sure, a lot of kids would stare, but he said he
didn't let that get to him.
In the middle of the year, a little bit of his hair grew back
so he didnt need the hat any more.
All of the kids were so nice to him, and he had a lot of new friends.
He got to go on the school trips too. At the end of the year, on the
last day of school, we were talking. One of the guys from the other
side of the room, Kyle, said something insulting to Tommy. Tommy has always been
good at comebacks, and he said something equally insulting to Kyle. That's when he mumbled
"Cancer boy."
Under his breath.
When I heard Kyle say that about tommy,
i felt like i wanted to knock that kid's lights out.
How could a person have the courage to say something like that?
I never did confront Kyle, neither did Tommy. He never
lets anything or anyone get to him.
He is a fighter, and one heck of a strong kid and
inspiration.
