Happily Ever
After
Chapter Ten
"You'll never know if you don't try," I said quietly and he put his forehead to mine again.
Slowly and carefully he closed his lips around mine. It wasn't a long kiss, but in this case that was a good thing. It was perfect. He was gentle and almost scared. When he pulled away, neither of us smiled. In fact, we were thinking and I'm pretty sure the both of us were a bit dazed.
Then the song ended and I let go of him and he let go of me.
"I missed you," he said quietly and I took his hand.
"I missed us," I said and he lightly smiled, following me over to my now empty table.
Mariah and Louis were over talking to my other cousins, and I think Grampy had gone to chat with my aunt.
I sat down and he sat across from me. There were small foods at the table. Mostly fruits like grapes and strawberries, but I was hungry and it was something. I went for a grape and Niall did too. Ironically we both went for the same one and laughed. I got it before him so be pouted.
"Grow up," I chuckled.
"No," he laughed. "That very well could've been the best grape in the world and now I'll never know."
"You're such a dork," I chuckled, throwing it at him and he gasped.
"Wes!" He gasped, laughing.
"You could've caught it," I said and he got a handful of the small fruits.
"So that's how it's gonna be?" He asked. "Blame it all on Niall?"
"Yup," I said bravely so he threw a grape at me.
"Niall James Horan," I said as if he just swore at an elder.
"You started it," he chuckled and I laughed, standing up and grabbing a handful of grapes for myself.
He stood up as well and we ran around our table throwing grapes at each other.
"You could take an eye out with one of those things Wes be careful!" Niall chuckled after I hit him the cheek with one.
"Whoops," I said sarcastically and he laughed.
I guess I got sort of distracted because he came up behind me and hugged me.
"You're so cute," he said, kissing me on the cheek.
"I know I am," I said and he chuckled and put his chin on my shoulder.
"Well look what we have here," Michelle said, walking up to Niall and I, followed by Lou and Mariah. "I should have put money on it."
"Put money on what?" Niall asked.
"Michelle believes she knew we were going to get back together," I said and he hugged me tighter.
"Well then pay the girl," he said and we all laughed.
"Does this mean you're actually back together?" Mariah asked.
"I think so," I said and Mariah sighed in relief.
"Oh thank God," she said and Niall and I laughed. "I was starting to think you were going to be like awkward friends that may or may not be dating forever."
"Alright I got something to say," Marcus shouted and we all looked at him.
"Michelle, Steven and I all met in a police station. I find that weird. That’s all," he said.
We all laughed a bit and then he looked at me.
"Wes," he said. "Have you got anything to say."
"Well I really don't say much," I chuckled and Marcus handed me his mic.
"Well I think you all know what's happened to Steven and my parents and I'm sure they'd love to be here right now. Even though they aren't here physically, Steven and I have them in our hearts and I hope the rest of you do. I want to wish my brother and his new wife a long happy life together and if you have a daughter I expect her to be named after me."
I laughed and gave the mic back to Marcus. After another hour or so, around eleven at night, Louis, Mariah, Niall and I decided on heading home. I for one was absolutely exhausted.
"You tired sweetheart?" Niall asked me while he started his car.
"I'm exhausted," I said and he put his arm around me.
"Want to go to your place or mine?" He asked.
"Mine," I said. "The ride is shorter and I'm tired."
Niall smiled and started driving towards my house. Now that I think of it, he’s never been there.
