I'm trying to say that other's can't control your happiness based on their own. Like if they're not happy they can't drag you down with them.

did you mean someone should not rely on another person for happiness? because the mindset that you can't be happy because another is happy is very toxic

I disagree. One should not really completely upon others for happiness, but to have the happiness of others not influence one's happiness at all seems a touch sociopathic, lol.
