Okay, back then, girls weren't allowed to be alone with guys. They had to have a chaperone with them at all times. They wouldn't be allowed to lay in the grass together and "talk about forever" because they weren't allowed to be in touching distance with each other unless they were married. Most of marriages then were arranged any way. So love was not very common. Your fantasy idea of that time period is very wrong.

I think when we imagine the bygone days we forget arranged marriages and the fact that there were still a lot of ... this is rather romanticized, no offense

I can totally see where your coming from, sometimes I believe I am born in the wrong era. In them days you would get long, romantic, thoughtful, love letters. Nowadays your lucky to get a text a few words long. Before there was ball gowns, dancing. People used to talk face to face not through Facebook statuses. And yes, in them days men were gentlemen.

The laying in the grass and just talking about forever... yeah, that doesn't always mean forever. Or even some warped high school idea of "forever." Or even until next Thursday, for that matter... Bitter, me? Nahh...
