You know that girl.
She sits in front of class,
because she likes to learn.
She reads for fun.
And she's never kissed a boy.
She sits their, silent, everyday.
She could outsmart any of the kids in her class.
She talks to her teachers about their lives.
She bakes cookies for everyone,
even the kids she doesn't know.
She can recite any Harry Potter quote
from the books or the movies.
She knows every Batman character in the comics
and their life story.
She doesn't ever obsess over any guy.
Her hair is frizzy.
She has wizard duels with her family.
There's not a hint of make up on her face.
Her sleeves are long,
arms are scarred.
She's been through some challenging days.
She gets physically sick talking in front of people.
And can have an anxiety attack at any given time.
It takes her slow, steady steps
to complete simple tasks.
She watches other girls,
she wants to be more like them.
But she doesn't understand,
that those girls could stand to be more like her.
She's beautiful,
but she doesn't see it.
That girls is my sister.
And today she turned 21.
I couldn't be more proud of the woman she's become.
I love you Emma.
