Well, sorry to disappoint you, but you'll probably have to ask the question directly, meaning "Can I have your number," is probably the best question to ask. But, most guys don't take it as a very forward question, so just asking him for his number won't really be "throwing yourself out there," if that's what you had thought. Hahah, but when you ask him say something along the lines of "hah heyy, can I have your number:D?" It'll make him seem like you enjoy talking to him, but make you seem not too pushy or anything. So, I hope I helped.
Oh, and last thing, if you really don't want to ask, try to get it from someone else that has it, because waiting for him to ask you for yours, will take awhile.
Usually when guys ask for a girls number, the guy feels like he won't get it, which is why guys avoid asking, to avoid being rejected. Since, when a guy asks for a girls number, girls usually infer that the guy has feelings for them, and say no... Or at least this is what I figure.
Hahah intermediate phsycology classes have done me no good. Hah.
