A CHANGE OF EVENTS
CHAPTER NINE
ALEX'S POV
"Okay, Honey!" Mum
called from the front seat of our white Cadillac Escalade.
"We're here!"
There, in front of me was this tradtional American style house
which I thought was absolutely beautiful, but cannot compare to
our old house.
As I was getting the orange blossom and vanilla two-tiered cake
out of the boot, I noticed that the house has been renovated. I
remember this house as a child, but it wasn't as big as it
was now.
"Luke?" I called out as I walked through the door.
I just called his name out because I didn't recognise him. I
had to be sure of it, because he had changed heaps in the space
of two years.
Come to think of it, wasn't he at the Boardwalk like 15
minutes ago?
"Alex!" He looked at me like something died on my
head.
I felt myself burn up a bit inside, maybe because those feelings
I took two years to forget about is suddenly becoming familiar to
me again.
Domenic had been texting me the whole day to make sure I was
okay.
The truth is, I'm not okay. This whole day has been making me
feel woozy.
I still loved Luke, but I'm pretty sure he's still with
Alicia.
"Why don't the two of you go upstairs to catch up."
Mrs. Larson suggested.
I stood there in his room, completely gobsmacked and
speechless.
I had no idea how to hold a conversation with Luke. He probably
thinks I'm a ditz for being so awkward.
"How was Fiji?" He asked me, looking completely zoned
out.
"France, and yeah. It was amazing! I miss it
already."
He doesn't even care enough to remember where I went off to
for two years. I really wanted to ask him if he's still
seeing Alicia, but I don't even think he likes me enough to
respond to that.
"... You know you can take a seat. You don't actually
have to stand up?" He told me like I was five years old. He
must really think I'm stupid.
To be honest, I wasn't even texting Dom that much, I was just
checking my Facebook, and liking my friends' photos. Ha,
Alex. What friends?!
"Oh yeah! I didn't realise." I giggled
awkwardly.
"Dom?! OMG, hey!" I beamed as I answered my phone.
Luke didn't even realise I was in the room, until I hung
up.
"Hey Alex, I was wondering, what are you doing
tomorrow?" He asked me.
Oh my gosh, I thought I felt my heart stop for a minute. Was he
going to ask me out on a date?!
"Uhh... Nothing, I guess." I stammered.
"What's up?"
"My friend's holding this 'dating in the dark'
themed party..." He went off into details.
"This seems interesting, I'll do it!" I grinned at
him.
Crap. I meant to say, 'I'll come.' Stupid Alex, once
again!
Even though I was smiling, I was devastated that he didn't
even ask me out on a date.
You know what, Alex. You have spent your whole life
obsessing over this one boy.
It's time to move on.
