CHAPTER 9 "A NOSE CAST"
I squirmed uncomfortably breathing through my mouth while Dr. Phillips pressed warms mushy stuff onto my face, while my nose shaped into the stuff. I wasn't sure what it was but it sure smelt bad. A few minutes later, it started to harden and he took it off. I silently winced. "Wait right here." Dr. Phillips motioned me to stay and left. I heard voices outside but only Dr. Phillips but I wasn't able to make out the words. I didn't think I heard my mom in any parts.
My mom came in to talk to me but Dr. Phillips didn't trail in behind her. "Honey," she started. "I know this is going to be a hard decision but I promise it's going to be fine. I'll help you get through it." I appreciated her comfort but I didn't need it. I already made up mind.
"Mom, it's not exactly like I have a choice. A deformed nose forever or surgery and get it fixed pretending this never happened. I think I'll think I'll stick with the surgery." My mom's expression? Shocked. "Are you sure Heth (my nickname)?" I nodded.
"Well, okay." A few moments later, Dr. Phillips came in with something plastic. When he came closer, I got a better vision of it. It was a nose cast. Inside the plastic was what looked like a cushion. "It may be uncomfortable at first but after a day or so, it'll feel like a part of you." He put it on and immediately, I wanted too rip it off. "This is a special kind of cast, ok? Normally you would've gotten a normal cast, but you nose isn't exactly normally broken." He gave me all the details but I didn't listen, I let my mom do the listening.
When he was finally done talking and placing the nose cast I blurted out "Surgery!" At first he looked confused but then a look of understanding washed over his face. "I'm glad you decided so quickly and on your own. Since you've decided so early, I guess your surgery will be appointed to..." Dr. Phillips reached into the pocket of his white coat pulling out a planner and flipped through it. He muttered to himself. "The surgery will be done on Friday in the morning. You'll have to miss school though."
He turned to my mom, "Will that be okay?" My mom nodded.
"Okay, please come by 9:30, I'll explain details on the phone." and that was that. It was done.
My talked a little bit more and soon I was at home, stepping out of the car. The ride home was silent and Cameron was giggling and Elizabeth was just babbling on and on about how nice the nurses were. I walked upstairs to my room, more like ran, and shut the door. I close the door while I dialed Jamie first. Next I would call Victoria, and then anyone else I came across on my contact list.
I called each one and Jamie apologized like crazy and Victoria was the same. I didn't call anyone else.
I got a text from Jamie.
"Hey, u want 2 go swimming tmrrw? Vic's gna b there 2!"
Well you know my history of swimming, the fish tank incident. I hadn't been swimming ever since. Only time I went to swimming pools was to tan and that was it. But I didn't wantt Jamie to think I didn't want to go because she broke my nose so I texted her,
yes
I kept wondering if I should text back never mind.
