I turned back.
"Yes I can." I said glaring.
"And I will." I pried his hands off of me. I jumped in before he could grab me and drag me back again.
"Mason!"
I yelled again as soon as I had surfaced. I swam a hard and long as I could. I could just see but barely through the gray water.
Hours later I was finally dragged out of the water by the policemen who where searching to. I kicked and struggled. I scratched and even bit a few of them. It took 3 of these trained full grown men to get me out of the water. Finally they dragged me out of the water and onto the shore where I curled up into a tiny ball. I cried and screamed for what seem like days. It may have been minutes for all I know. I finally fell asleep. When I woke Aunt Ramona was crouched over me.
"You where muttering his name for hours hun."
My head snapped up.
"Where is everyone?"
I couldn't see anyone.
"Jade, this river flows for miles see, and they next town over there was a report of a boy...Who washed up on the shore of the river. He wasn't in good shape."
I jumped up.
"Mason! They've found Mason."
My heart was pounding in my ears. My adrenaline was pumping. I could hardly draw my breathe.
I swung around my heels and ran all they way to the water for the billionth time. I dove in. I swam as fast as the current would take me, downstream. They said that Mason washed up. The policemen where sure to be on the shore.
It took 2 hours of swimming. But when I got there there where ambulances along the bank of the creek. There was a stretcher with a boy on it, policemen everywhere-a stretcher with a boy on it! Mason!
"Mason!?!" I screamed with all my might policemen rushed to my side and lectured about me swimming 2 towns over. No matter. Mason is here. Really here.
"Miss! Don't go to him. He has been muttering for hours. He isn't looking well. He hasn't had food or sleep for nearly 3 days. He hit his head and lost a lot of blood. His femur is broken. And he may have certain unknown problems after he hit his head. He had a 'disrupted cerebral movement.'*"
"Meaning?" I said.
"His head was hit on the rock see, and is shook his brain and may have bruised the tissue in there, or broke of something...No one knows exactly yet."
I almost puked. But I got smart a ran away. And right into the back of the ambulance before they shut the door. This time it took all my strength (which wasn't much after all of that swimming) not to throw up because this sight was sure to give me nightmares.
His skin was pale and freezing cold. His shaggy black hair was tangles and matted. He had cuts on his arms and chest and legs. His fore head was wrapped in a bandage so that the swelled would stop. His left leg was wrapped too. Oh yes, he broke it. His eyes where opened a tiny bit.
"Mason!" I breathed.
He looked a bit confused but then something in him understood.
"Jade?" He said.
"Yes." I said, I stopped hanging over him because my long, orange red curls where dangling in his face.
"I thought I recognized you. But I can't really see you, everything's blurry."
"Why is everything blurry for him?!"
I asked with fervor burning in my blood.
"Jade, It's ok." But that was Mason answering not the doctor.
She just looked away as if she knew something I didn't.
She took me to the corner of the back of the ambulance as far away from mason as possible.
"That hit to the head, really ruptured his brain. He may have brain damage as most. But we don't think it will go that far. But we are almost positive that he will be blind."
I choked out the words;
"But it was his brain not eyes."
"Yes was his head was hit and his brain was ruptured very badly and is broke certain brain cells and parts and pieces connecting to his cornia. Thats his eye."
"I know what it is."
I walked over and knelt by Masons side. And clutched his cold hand. Maybe I could warm him up a bit. But how? I couldn't give him my soaking wet jacket or anything.
"Don't worry about me Jade. I'll be ok darling."
Poor Mason. He has know idea that he may never see again. He has no idea that the blurry is only going to get worse.
Oh Mason, he may never.See.Again.
**I obviously made up that lame,
very stupid name for Mason hitting his head
so ya i dont need comments saying,
"tats not even reallllll."
because I already know. I made it up.
