   As people, we must take action against the issue of bullying because of Depression, self harm, and insecurity issues. It's a serious topic that people just let slip from their mind. It's not a joke, it's not even funny at all yet so many treat it as if it is. It's unbelievable that the amount of damage that bullying causes is still remained unnoticed. You need to notice it, we ALL need to notice it. Most people don't understand that a temporary action could leave a permanent scar.
   “Bullying can be avoided and you’re weak if you let yourself get bullied.” I have heard so many people say things so similar to this. I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I’m sorry, what? You are not weak if you’re bullied. Bullying is not a “way of life” and it should not be tolerated. Bullying causes so much and so many kids stay home from school because of it. 20 percent of teens will experience depression before they reach adulthood. Fifteen out of that twenty percent have depression due to bullying. Words that are said have an ever lasting affect on someone. Depression just doesn't disappear one random day. A person could seem so happy but they could be going through so much more than anyone could ever imagine. The statistics say it's twenty percent, but that's just reported cases. So many people are keeping it to themselves because they're afraid of what people will think of them. There's hundreds, maybe even thousands of people in the world who are dealing with depression
   Sixty-five percent of the kids who have self harmed have done it because they were bullied. What if you knew you were the reason behind the scars on someone's body? The saddest part is a good portion of you wouldn't even care. Part of you aren't even listening to this right now, because you just don't care. Let this sink in, 1 in 5 teens have though about suicide, about 1 in 6 had plans for suicide, and more than 1 in twelve had attempted suicide in the last year due to bullying. “I don't think I was ever trying to kill myself but I knew that if I'd ever gone too far...I wouldn't care.” said, Demi Lovato, the teen pop star. The girl who basically has the world handed to her on a golden platter, she self harmed herself. Not only did Demi have cuts on her wrists, but she also attempted to starve herself. Demi came out and told everyone about her bullying story, and how she did these things to herself because of the things publicity, and haters were saying. Even after people watched her reach out and get help, they still said rude, horrid, and unbelievable things to her. She got help, she's strong, but some people aren't. Not everyone can ask for help. The simple words you say can cause someone to do these things to themselves. Some times you say that you're just "joking". That joke where you called her fat? She starved herself. That joke when you told someone to go kill themselves? To them it wasn't a joke, they actually did what you said. Now tell me..is your joke still funny?
   I can guarantee you everyone in this room has at least one insecurity. I can guarantee you that at least ninety percent of you have this insecurity because someone pointed it out. Maybe someone's biggest insecurity is bigger than someone else's, but it's still harms the way you see yourself. After someone points one thing out, you look in the mirror you see nothing but every single one of your flaws. Right now, I'm scared to death to do this essay because I know you guys could be paying attention to any of my biggest flaws. Half of you are probably thanking God that you don't have a lisp, or screwed up teeth. Those are my biggest insecurities. Want to know why? Because through out the time period that I've had my speech impediment and my chipped tooth, I've had handfuls of insults thrown at me. One after another, people just seem to attack me for it. It's gotten to the point where I and so many others can say,"It's fine, I'm used to it." Isn't it sad, admitting that? You're used to being hurt, made fun of, and having to worry about someone saying something. No one should EVER be used to it. I nor anyone should be "used" to your constant words and looks of disapproval.
   We're constantly avoiding the topics that make people have secrets. We don't do anything until something dramatic happens. One day someone could be pushed to their edge, just by a few simple words. The reason could possibly be someone in this room, or down the hall, or the victim could be any one of us. People are constantly saying,"If we would've known, we would've done something." You can't, though. It's too late to fix it. You would've seen it if you just tried. Constantly fighting a battle that you don't even deserve to be in will eventually tire you. I just want you to open your eyes and see the effect you have. See how damaging your words can be. If you don’t understand what it’s like to be bullied, Congratulations. But for the rest, i’m sorry.

    Chapter 8
    His I walked into the library instead of going to lunch.
    I sat at a table by myself and pulled out my books to study.
    A small curvy blonde came walking up to me followed by three other familiar girls.
    probably girls who have gone to my brother's parties.
    "hey, is it true that you and nick have a thing?" the blonde sneered.
    I nodded, "sort of, yeah."
    She let out a laugh soon being mimicked by her friends.
    "Be careful, that's all I have to say." She said walking away.
    "what do you mean?"
    She stopped walking and turned around, "I've dated him before hun, he's not going to stick around for long."
    I shouldn't care what she has to say. I mean, this time maybe he's different.
    I heard the sound of her heels clicking against the floor, along with some evil snickers coming from her and her friends.
    "Hey Lex! I was wondering where you were!"
    I looked up to see Nick's face standing across from me. He grabbed a chair and pulled it across the table.
    "Why aren't you eating?"
    "I wanted to get some studying in" I said nibbling on my pencil.
    "You looked too stressed" he laughed.
    "Eh, If I want to get into Yale, I gotta do what I gotta do."
    "Come with me" he said gently grabbing my hand.
    We walked down The D halllway which led to the Auditorium,
    "Where are we going?"
    "The only place that this hallway leads to" he smiled.
    "We're not allowed in there!"
    "seriously, Lex, no one ever checks if anyone's in there."
    We walked out into the empty theater.
    I looked at the stage with the piano and the microphone. He grabbed my hand and sat me down next to him in the empty crowd.
    "You know, this is so embaressing, but I've always wanted to act." he laughed.
    "seriously?!"
    He nodded, "Embaressing, I know."
    "No, I've always wanted to be a singer, then I gave up 'cause I realized I sounded like a seal."
    He laughed, "I'm sure it doesn't."
    we both chuckled a little bit.
    "So, I was wondering, if you'd want to come with me and a few other people to a beach house for the weekend, like after prom." He asked.

    "Only if you want to though, no pressure."

    He smiled,"alright! awesome!"
    The bell rang it was time for us to go to 9th period. We walked down the hallway and he kissed my cheek as I walked into my class room.

    Chapter 7
    The sun shined it 's beams straight into my face. I sat up in my bed and looked at my phone to see a text message from Nick.
    "Goodmorning(:"
    I laughed and threw my phone on my bed as I hopped into the shower.
    It was around noon when Nick came over to make things look more believable.
    We sat in my room and watched movies.
    For once I feel like I was actually bonding with him. We were both in stitches on the ground at the comedy movies we watched.
    The end of the Notebook came on, My face was drenched in tears. I looked over to nick's he had a few tears coming form his eyes.
    "AWH!" i squeled.
    He quickly wiped his tears away, "I wasn't crying...there was just something in my eye."
    I stared at him for a second before breaking into a session of laughing.
    The sun was setting, my parents weren't going to be home for the next few days.
    We sat there talking on my bed, "Alexis, I'm really sorry that I did this to you"
    "Don't worry about it."
    He gave me a small frown.
    "want to take a walk?"
    "Sure," I smiled.
    We walked down the street just talking and laughing. Maybe he wasn't soo bad afterall.
    "So, let's play a game, we just tell eachother random facts about ourselves" he said while smiling.
    "Okay, you first!"
    "Hmm, well I hate when people take my hat, my hats are like my favorite thing." he giggled.
    "I'll keep that in mind" I laughed.
    "Your turn"
    "Uhm, I have an embaressing obsession with writing poetry."
    A smile spread from cheek to cheek,"that's so cute"
    I blushed, We just kept giving each other little facts.
    We sat down in the middle of the park field. He kept staring at me with a smile on his face.
    The conversation quickly died down ads our faces started to get closer.
    is he going to kiss me?
    I paniced, when his face was a close distance away I grabbed his hat from his head and sprinted away.
    He chased after me trying not to crack up.
    He caught up to me and grabbed me from behind and spun me around.
    I was dying from laughing so hard when he out his hands on my cheeks and kissed my lips softly.

    *A few days later*
    I was walking through the crowded mall with Ceclilia, she's been my best friend since the 5th grade.
    We walked into DEB as soon as I stepped foot into the store a beautiful light pink dress stood out.
    I looked at it with pure amazement.
    Cecilia looked at me with a huge smile on her face,"that's the one"
    I ran up and grabbed it off the rack and ran into the dressing room.
    It fit perfectly, I walked out to show cecilia.
    I looked like a princes. I kept a huge smile on my face while I was trying on the dress.
    Then I remembered this was only a deal, it wasn't anything more.
    Even my best friend didn't know it was just a joke.
    I looked at the price tag it was only $100, which was cheap because my mom gave me $600 to spend. I bought a pair of silver high heels.
    We walked out into the food court. We sat down and I got a smoothie.
    I moved the uncrushed ice around with my straw, "Alexis, you are so lucky", cecilia smiled.
    I nodded,
    "Why aren't you like extremely excited!? I mean Nick, the most popular guys at the school, asked you. Simple Alexis Brooks to the prom"
    I forced a smile,"I'm just nervous, you know I'm not very social"
    she laughed, "don't be scared girl, I'll see you there.." she said biting her lip with excitement.
    "WHAT!?! YOU HAVE A DATE!"
    "mhm," her smile grew,"Mark from our biology class? he asked me today! i mean it's not as nearly as cute as Nick but still!"
    We both squealed, "Let's get you a dress!"
    "I have one already! he bought it for me!" she smiled.
    too bad your date is actually real.
    I finally walked through my front doors, my Parents and Anthoyn were sitting at the table eating dinner,"hey guys, sorry I'm late"
    "it's fine sweetie, did you get a dress?" my mother smiled.
    A smile grew across my face as I nodded.
    "Great! we'll check it out after dinner, just grab a plate and dig in"
    I sat down next to Anthony, he wouldn't look at me.
    The plan is to make him feel extremely guilty, so I have to act excited.
    I washed the table off as we cleaned up for dinner. My parents were on the couch as Anthony put his plate into the sink.
    "Lexi, uh, I'm really happy you're going to prom"
    "Thanks! I mean I've never been so happy !"
    He nodded and walked up the steps.
