Is it worth it?
Chapter 1
“That mother f*cker!,” Spencer swore. “It’s alright, Spence,” I softly said, wrapping a cloth around his bloody knuckles. “It’s not alright Carter! You can’t just let them push you around like that!,” he ranted. “It doesn’t matter. I’m fine, really,” I promised him. It never really hurt, I was used to it. “No. It does matter. Carter, I can’t stand watching them push you around,” he told me. “Can we not talk about this?,” I begged. “Ok, fine. Do you want to sleep over?,” he asked. Our sleep over usually consists of pillow fights, food, movies, and a lot of dares and pranks. Our victims were his siblings. “Sure, can I use your phone to call my mom?,” I asked. He passed me his phone and I dialed my number. I told my mom and she agreed as long as it’s fine with Jesse, Spencer’s mom. “She said yes, do you want to drop by the video store? And grocery store?,” I asked him. He nodded as we drove off.
“Pick 5 movies and meet me at the front desk,” he told me and dashed off. This store was open 24/7, the owner was an old man and he knew us very well. “What to choose, what to choose,” I muttered to myself. I started going through the rows of the movies and spotted a good one, ‘Don’t be afraid of the dark’. Perfect. I quickly chose 3 more, Gone, Smurfs, and Happy feet 2. I couldn’t decide on the last one, either Alien vs Predator or Lion king. Being the biased person I am, I grabbed Lion King because it was my favourite movie. I ran to the front desk where Spencer was waiting. I put my movies on the counter and took a look at what Spencer chose. Alien vs Predator (wow), Narnia, Lion king 2, War horse and Monsters Inc.
“I approve,” we told each other, laughing at how well we knew the other. We rang up our purchases and dashed to the store next door. An elderly lady who ran Candy Hut also was 24/7. We both knew that we would grab so we split. I grabbed smores, marshmellows, ice cream, lollipops, bunch of chips, cookies, a slushie, chocolate, nutella and popcorn. I ran to the cashier and bought all my items. I grinned as I took a sip of my slushie, I saw Spencer grabbing a slushie too as he waited for the cool drink to fill to the top. He walked up to me and also purchased everything. “Let’s go,” he grinned. We thanked Mrs. Elliot and walked out, pleased with our purchases.
