Second chances
Chapter 5
I bolted down the hallway to my locker to get my backpack and all my homework. I had a ton, but it was going to have to wait. Why would I do homework when I could chat with Noah? I walked down the empty hallways that were just beginning to fill with people. Noah probably wasn't even out of his class yet. I stopped by a soda machine to get a Sun Drop and fiddled with the buttons for a while, pretending to still be deciding on what I should buy. I didn't want to be the first girl in detention. I'd been to detention enough to know that you were better off being late, otherwise you would get made fun of. I checked my phone. It was 3:15, 15 minutes after class let out. I figured I was late enough, and walked down to the detention room. I opened the door and walked in as the teacher was giving the usual instructions.
"Don't talk, don't make noises, don't get up and walk around, and no leaving this room. I'll be back to check up on you," Mrs. Greese, the detention monitor and secretary said. "Oh, you're finally here?" she said, noticing me,"Be on time!"
I shrugged, "Sorry, Mrs G. I was talking to a teacher." I am an excellent liar. Mrs. Greese glared at me and walked out of the room. I sat down next to Noah, the whole class still laughing at my exchange with Mrs. G. Noah smirked at me.
"You come here a lot?" he asked
"Only to check up on all you delinquents," I teased. Bianca, overhearing our conversation, chimed in.
"She's here almost once a week." She said seriously.
Noah looked at me, surprised. I shrugged.
"teachers here don't like me." Suddenly, Mrs G's chubby face appeared in the window of the door.
"NO TALKING!" she screeched, and all our heads automatically turned towards our homework, or for me, my aviators. They reflect your face and noone can tell were you're looking. I spent most of the period staring at Noah out of the corner of my eye. At the end of detention, I had gotten exactly 0% of my homework done, but I could just do it at home. Then I realized that I didn't have a ride home. My car was in the shop and Liz had given me a ride here.
"Shoot." I mumbled. Noah came up behind me and smiled.
"You need a ride?"
"Yeah." I grinned sheepishly as my face heated up with embarassment, and I followed him to his silver Camaro. Of course he had a Camaro. Compared to my yellow Volkswagen bug, this was like a limo. I crawled into the passenger seat and we started driving.
"Where do you live?" He asked.
"Just turn right here and then turn left. Its on Apollo." Noah turned on the radio as we drove. When we pulled into my driveway, I thanked him and turned to leave.
"Blake?" Noah caught my wrist and I turned to face him.
"Yeah?"
"Do you want to go see a movie this Friday?" he asked me hopefully.
"Sure!" I said, happy that he asked.
"Great." he looked relieved and waved to me as he drove away.
I whipped out my phone and dialed Liz's number.
