i was sitting in the waiting room
playing with the little dragon stuffed
animal
and she came up to me
and asked if she could see it
i handed it over shyly
and she said thanks
and ran over to her mommy
saying
"mommy, mommy! look! its just like the one Cara had!"
i looked up at her mom, with a tired look
in her blue eyes
and watched tears escape the corners of them
"Just like it." she said, wiping the tears off her cheeks
a year later
i was back in the same waiting room
and this time, i was 6.
i read the sign
"oncologist Marie StFarm."
by this time, i knew i was sick and that
i didnt have long left to live
the same little girl came in
her mom carrying her
and she was holding the same dragon
all her hair was gone
and i saw a line of stiches across her head
"mommy, let me down please" she said, in a small voice.
she came over to me and handed me the dragon
"here, thanks for letting me have it for a while. Its the
same one my baby sister had. but she took hers up to show jesus." she said
"you can keep it" i said.
"my name is Felicity." she said.
"im Charlie." i said back, and she
sat next to me and started coloring in the coloring
book.
a year later, when i went in for my operation, i saw a bed being rolled down the hallway
and in it
was a small little body, asleep.
and it looked like the girl i saw that day
and she was holding the dragon
2 years later, i was cured, and i was looking through the newspaper,
and on the second page
there was a picture of that girl
felicity
saying "rest in peace, angel" 1.13.02-2.4.11.
and in the picture
she was gone, in a small little cascet. holding the dragon.
gone to go show it to jesus
