Second guesses,
Second Chances
Chapter five
Part three
“Do you have any brothers or sisters?” I asked.
“Nope, but Nathan has an older brother and a younger sister, and to be honest having those three around, I don’t need any” she laughed.
I laughed too. A girl ran down the stairs nearest to us. She looked about my age, maybe slightly younger.
"That’s Elsie” Cara pointed to the girl, who stopped and stared at me, “She’s Nathan’s sister, she’s 12”
Elsie was medium height, slim, and tanned. She looked just like Nathan. She had the same sandy blonde hair which was long and down to her waist. She had sea green eyes too.
“Same age as my sister, Hope” I acknowledged.
“Hope?” Elsie asked, “Hope Williams?”
“Yeah” I replied.
“She’s nice” Elsie grinned and ran towards the kitchen which I could see from here.
“Well yeah, that’s Elsie, so you have one sister?” Cara asked me.
“I have two, Hope and Lilly whose 7” I replied.
“Oh ok” she smiled, “If you meet him, Nathan’s brother’s called George” she told me.
I nodded smiling. She led the way through into the kitchen which looked light, and expensive. Big patio doors and windows stretched almost the whole of the back wall. From where I was standing I could see clearly a swimming pool glinting softly and a massive garden. I could see Elsie and a boy who looked about 16 playing with a black Labrador in the garden.
“Is that George?” I asked.
“Yeah” she answered, glancing at the garden.
She did a double take, “Oh my word. George is downstairs? George? Please tell me I’m not the only one seeing this”
I laughed, “You aren’t” I reassured her.
My laugh didn't signify how I felt inside though. I was nervous. No, scrap that, I was freaking out. I wished she'd just get to it and tell me whatever it was. I sighed and looked at George. George was like Cara. He had the same tanned skin and I couldn’t see his eyes but they looked sea greeny-blue from where I was standing. He had dark hair, jet black. He must have got his dark hair from his dad, like Cara, I assumed. At that moment a tall woman who looked to be in her late thirties came into the kitchen. She looked so much like Cara it was un-believable. The only difference was their hair colour, and their age obviously. She had the same sandy coloured hair as Nathan and Elsie. She smiled at us.
“Who’s this?” she asked Cara.
“My friend. Her name’s Miya; she’s in the same year as Nathan.” Cara replied.
“Oh ok” She smiled, “I’m Cara’s mum. My name is Kelia.”
“I love your name” I smiled back.
“Thank you; do you guys want some cookies? Sylvia made them”
“Sylvia is Nathan’s mum” Cara whispered.
I looked at Cara.
“Yeah, please mum” She grinned at me.
I frowned. She still hadn’t told me anything. Cara seemed to realise this.
“I’ll explain in my room” she whispered.
