Mostly in her first four years,
She relied upon her Mum.
But now she’s five
And so alive,
The ‘Daddy days’ have come.
She looks at him with wondrous eyes
And he returns her gaze.
She hugs her bear,
Dad smoothes her hair,
Not ceasing to amaze.
They play, they laugh, they work, they sing
Together throughout the day
The times they share
Just in their pair,
No obstacles in their way.
She picks his clothes and tells him how
He really ought to dress.
He plays along,
Although she’s wrong,
Not causing her distress.
Because he knows there’ll come a day,
When she won’t be this way.
She’ll have her friends,
As childhood ends,
“I’m all grown up,” she’ll say.
That day is a long way off from here,
At present she’s his pearl,
And so for now
She takes a bow
As Daddy’s Little Girl.
