I Swear I Mean It This Time- Chapter Twenty-Seven
"And after she held my son on her lap for twenty minutes, bouncing him after I repeatedly told her he just ate, Drew threw up on her," I laughed, telling Katie the story. "I swear, it was the funniest thing I have ever seen. She looked like she was going to be sick herself."
"Ohmygod, I wish I could have been there," she said, laughing so hard she was doubled over. "So did anything else happen in Canada?" She asked me. It had been about two weeks since we had been up there. Two very long, very very long weeks.
"If you mean between me and Justin? No. And have we done anything since we got back? No. He hasn't called in a week..." I said, looking over to Drew, who had learned to sit up. He was playing with his toys on the floor.
"He hasn't called? I thought you guys were together?"
I shrugged, taking a sip of my coffee. "I thought we were. But we got back to Canada, he cancelled every dinner date I planned. And this week he hasn't called at all, not even to see Drew."
"And Josh?"
"Has had flowers delivered every day since I got back. I finally started bringing them to the daycare and my parent's house, I was running out of places to put them. Do you want to bring an arangement home?" She laughed, shaking her head. "And every one of them comes with a note about how sorry he is." I nodded towards the pile of cards on the coffee table.
"So the guy you want won't talk to you, and the guy you don't want won't stop talking to you? This is better than a soap opera," she teased, laughing.
"Yeah, we should start recording my life," I laughed, leaning back against the couch.
"Call him," she said, handing me the phone.
"Call who?"
"Justin, call him now."
"He won't answer," I said, dialing his number. I let it ring, and ring, and ring. Surprisingly, he picked up at the last second.
"I can't talk, I told you I would call when I'm not busy."
"Well are you going to see your son any time soon? I don't care if you don't want this relationship Justin, just tell me that. But your son misses you."
He sighed, "can I come pick him up?"
"Now?"
"Yeah, now."
"You'll have to give me a few minutes. I need to get him packed."
"I'll be over in ten." I hung up the phone and started packing a baby bag.
"That was short," Katie said.
"Yeah, he's coming to pick up Drew. Clearly our relationship, or lack of, is over. Which is fine with me,"
"Because you have guys literally chasing you down," Katie laughed.
"Can you put him in his carseat? I want to meet Justin down there. I don't really feel like explaining the 14 dozen flowers." After taking ten minutes to get Drew down the stairs, we arrived just in time to see Justin pull in.
"Are you seeing what I'm seeing?" Katie asked, her jaw dropping.
"Oh hell yes I am," I said, because Julia was with Justin. "Take Drew back inside," I said, and when she questioned, I just repeated what I said.
"Where is she going?" Justin asked, after parking the car. "You should have waited for me to come up, that's usually what we do."
"Oh, so you didn't want me to see Barbie in the car?" I said, folding my arms. "Drew isn't going with you today. When Barbie leaves, you can have him back."
"Her name is Julia, not Barbie. And no, I don't think so. You seem to forget that he's my son too Elena!"
"Well I'm the one who carried him around for nine months and then gave birth to him!"
"Don't pull that sh*t, Elena, I'm his father, and I want him now! I haven't seen him in two weeks!"
"Well who's fault is that?!" I yelled, "You haven't bothered to make plans with me! And now I see why!" I said pointing to the car. "I knew as soon as you let her back into your life we were over. And we are Justin, but it wasn't my desicion this time."
"I told you that we were just going to try it," he said quietly. "If it didn't work out it was okay."
"You didn't try anything," I said. "Call me when she goes home. Then you can have Drew." I turned around, slamming the door behind me.
"Elena!" he said, pounding on the door. "Elena!" He knocked for a few minutes.
"Come on Justin, we have a dinner reservation," I heard Barbie say. Only when I heard the car drive away did I let the tears fall. I knew it was over, but I never thought he would go back to her. I heard another knock on the door, and opened it, wiping the tears from my face.
"Elena? Are you okay?" Josh said, standing in front of me. He was hold another bouquet of flowers.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I said, coughing to clear my throat. "Thanks for the flowers." I took them from him. "You finally found the right ones," I smiled, because in my hands were pink dahlias.
"Yeah, well it was my last delivery."
"Josh, I'm sorry. I have just been so confused lately."
"No, I understand. I just need to know Elena, if I should stop calling." I stood there, looking at the flowers, looking at Josh, and thinking of what just happened with Justin.
"No," I shook my head. "I don't want you to stop calling. I want you to keep calling," he smiled, and leaned forward, tucking the hair behind my ear, he kissed me. I broke the kiss, to put the flowers on the table, and threw my arms around Josh's neck, pulling him closer.
He smiled into our kiss, and whispered "I love you,"
Didn't see that one coming, right?
