    Chapter 44
    Three Months Later
"Are you ready?" I asked Scarlet, as my phone lit up for the seventh time within the past ten minutes. A small smile lit across my face when I saw that it was only Travis, asking why Scarlet and I were so late to our double date. "I think Darren and Travis are getting impatient."
Darren was new to our school, and he just came six months into Scarlet's pregnancy.
Although everyone warned him to stay away from her, he couldn't help but find interest in her.
They've been dating for two months now, and he doesn't mind that Scarlet's carrying a baby that wasn't his.
    In fact, he supported her.
Scarlet rolled her eyes, before spritzing some hairspray into her blonde curls. "Tell them that I'm nine months pregnant, and I could be late if I want to."
I laughed, before jabbing away at my phone. "You do realize that we're half and hour late, right?"
Scarlet snorted, before finally setting her can of hairspray back on her vanity. "Hey, if I'm going to be this fat for a date, at least let me look decent."
I would've been lying if I said that Scarlet didn't look huge.
Her stomach was bulging out of her maternity blouse, and she had gained a few extra pounds from all of her pregnancy cravings throughout the past nine months.
    But, she didn't look bad.
    She looked healthy.
Suddenly, I noticed a puddle by her leg, as I frowned. "Scar, you didn't spill any hairspray, did you?"
Scarlet raised an eyebrow, shaking her head. "No, of course not. What kind of question is that?"
My eyes widened, as my lips suddenly parted.
The puddle that was running down Scarlet's leg became increasingly big, as I began to panic.
"Oh my gosh, Scar." I breathed. "Y-Your water broke!"
Scarlet's eyes widened, as she stared below her feet.
She let out a gasp, as her face suddenly flushed. "No!" she shrieked. "This can't be happening! I'm not due for another two weeks!"
I ran a hand through my hair, not caring how many hours it took for me to curl it.
My hands fumbled through Scarlet's purse, as I fished out her keys.
"We've got to get you to the hospital, right now." I quickly slurred, sounding incoherent.
I hurried Scarlet down the stairs, as she suddenly let out a wince of pain.
"It's hurting!" she snapped at me, suddenly fuming. "Why is it hurting so much?!"
"Deep breaths." I ordered Scarlet, as she began to pant.
I buckled her into the backseat, as I started up the car.
I quickly dialed Travis' number, as he picked up on the first ring.
"Riley?" he sounded angry. "You and Scarlet are thirty minutes late. Where the-"
"No time, Travis." I cut him off, as I sped down the street. "You and Darren need to get to St. Marks hospital, right now."
Travis muttered something to Darren, before he cleared his throat. "Did Scarlet-?"
"Yes." I quickly said, before pulling in the parking lot. "I need to go now, okay? Come quick."
I hung up on Travis, turning to face Scarlet, who's face was scrunched in pain.
"Get this baby out of me!" she screamed, as I led her into the hospital.
"Scarlet, hush." I tried to soothe her, as a nurse came rushing towards us. "Her water broke. She's screaming and telling me she's in pain and I just don't know what to-"
The nurse placed a hand on my shoulder, as she set Scarlet down in a wheelchair.
"We've got your sister covered." the nurse smiled softly. "Don't worry."
My shoulders relaxed, as I nodded weakly.
    They had Scarlet under control.
My best friend, no, sister, was giving birth any minute now.
    Sister.

    Chapter 42
    Five Months Later
"I'm so nervous." Scarlet squeezed my hand, as her legs shook.
It was no longer a secret that Scarlet was pregnant now.
Her baby bump was finally showing, and she's put on a few extra pounds since she first found out about her pregnancy.
"Scarlet Labourne?" a nurse suddenly came out from the ultrasound room, with a grin spread across her lips. "We have your results for you."
Scarlet gave my hand one last tight squeeze, before she stood up to meet the doctor back in the room.
I followed behind her, as I heard Scarlet's heavy breaths.
Once we entered the doctor's room, he was typing something on his computer.
"Doctor Willis," Scarlet gave the doctor a nervous smile, "is my baby a boy or a girl."
Doctor Willis spun around in her chair, as she handed Scarlet a manila envelope.
"Congratulations, Scarlet." The doctor nodded slowly. "You're having a baby girl."
I noticed that Scarlet's shoulders immediately sagged, as she let out a squeal of excitement.
"Yes!" she laughed, before turning back to me. "Did you hear that, Riley? I'm having a baby girl!"
I smiled at the sight of my best friend, noticing that her eyes were glowing of happiness.
I haven't seen so much glowing color in her cheeks for months.
"That's great." I smiled, as Scarlet ran to give me a tight hug.
She buried her face into my shoulder, as I felt tears leaking through my shirt.
"I can't wait until we pick out names!" Scarlet beamed.
    *
"How was the appointment today?" Travis asked, as we walked down the beach during midnight.
The cold sand sank in between my toes, as I stared up at the sky, which was full of starts.
I smiled when I saw that the full moon was out, bright and glowing.
"It was great." I whispered. "Scarlet's having a girl."
Travis smiled down at me, before he wrapped an arm around my waist.
We stayed in that position for a while, just the two of us, my back pressed against his chest.
He held me securely, as a tide washed up the shore, soaking our feet.
"A lot has happened this year, hasn't it?" I said softly, as Travis buried his face into my neck.
I felt Travis' chuckle vibrate against my skin, as I shuddered.
"It has." he smirked. "You met me."
    Arrogant as always.
I shot him a glare from the corner of my eyes, as he laughed.
Travis pecked my jaw, as I rolled my eyes.
"Aside from you, because you're irrelevant." I teased, sticking my tongue at him.
Travis raised an eyebrow at me, before laughing. "Yeah right, Riley." he said sarcastically. "Admit it, you love me."
I suddenly froze up, because Travis and I have never used the L word around each other before.
Sure, I've loved Travis since the beginning, but I was deathly afraid of what his feelings were for me.
"Do you, Riley?" he suddenly whispered in my ear, making me close my eyes. "Do you love me?"
I let out a deep breath, before nodding slowly.
    "I love you, Travis."
Travis stayed quiet for a long moment, and I was scared for a second that he didn't return my feelings.
But, he spun me around, taking me from the lips.
His hands ran down my back, making me arch my spine.
All of the emotions I felt while kissing Travis- were unexplainable.
    "I love you too, Riley."
This isn't the end, but it's very close to.

    Chapter 41
It was just the crack of dawn when I heard a light tapping on my window.
I stirred in my sleep, trying to ignore the sound, but the more I tried to avoid it, the louder it got.
I finally gave up, rolling out of bed, as I went over to push my curtains aside.
I literally snapped awake when I saw Travis crouching at my windowpane, his fist raised to the glass.
I opened the window, glaring at him. "Travis, it's six in the morning." I grumbled, still feeling a wave of sleepiness. "What do you want?"
Travis smirked, before opening the window further to let himself in my room. "I see that you aren't a happy person in the mornings." he chuckled. "It's cute."
I groaned, before rolling my eyes. "Would you keep it down, at least? My mom would slaughter me if she caught you in my room."
Travis raised an eyebrow, his eyes twinkling in amusement. "What would she think we are doing?"
I stared at him with disbelief, before tossing a pillow at him from my bed. "You're unbelievable, Travis Kapone!" I hissed.
Travis chuckled quietly, before pulling me closer with his hands on my hips.
I held in my breath as his thumbs brushed against the bare skin of my hips, where my tank top had ridden up just slightly.
"Come on," he whispered, "we're going on a date."
My eyes widened, as I took a minute to register in what Travis had just said.
"A date?" I repeated, as Travis nodded. "The sun isn't even up yet, Travis. Are you insane?"
Travis smirked, as he leaned in closer towards me.
His lips brushed against my earlobe, making me shiver.
"I guess I am." he whispered.
    *
I hadn't even gotten a chance to get dressed before Travis pulled me out of my house.
I was wearing nothing but a pair of flimsy flannel pants and a sweater that was a size too big on me.
My hair was left the way it was when I had woken up- a complete mess.
Travis was currently dragging me up a hill that was behind a mass of trees.
It was still dark, and my fingers were becoming numb from the cold.
"We're here." Travis muttered, as we stopped on top of a cliff, onlooking out at the town.
I frowned, noticing that there was nothing interesting about the scenery before us.
The entire town was still asleep, and when I looked down, I saw nothing but a bunch of vacant buildings.
"What the hell is this Travis?" I asked, frowning up at him.
A small smile lit across Travis' face, before he gestured for me to sit down.
"It's about to start." he whispered, as we sat down the dusty ground.
Suddenly, the sky slowly started to become brighter and brighter by the moment, as the sun began to appear.
The sky lit up in orange, as the sun rose high.
My lips parted, awestruck from the beauty.
"Wow." I breathed, glancing over at Travis, who was watching me the entire time.
Travis smiled, showing off his left dimple that I hardly ever got to see. "Yeah." he softly said, before cupping my right cheek.
He pulled me closer towards him, until our lips locked.

    Chapter 40
After not being able to speak for Travis for an entire week, I decided to apologize to him at his house.
I rang the doorbell on his front steps, waiting a few minutes before Dylan, Travis' older brother, opened the door.
A broad grin spread across his face when he saw me, as he stepped aside to let me in.
"Riley," Dylan smirked, "what a surprise to see you here."
I laughed lightly, before giving him a raised eyebrow.
"Same goes to you, Dylan." I paused, peering over the living room to see if Travis was lounging on the couch or not. "Is Travis home?"
Dylan rolled his eyes, before giving me a sarcastic grin. "And here I was, thinking that you came all the way here for me." he chuckled. "Travis is upstairs in his room, if you need him."
I nodded, before brushing past his shoulder. "Thanks." I muttered, before making my way up the staircase.
I slowly walked down the halls towards Travis' room, hesitantly raising my fists to knock on the door.
"Dylan, I told you, I'm not going to that stupid party with you tonight!" I heard Travis shout from the other side of the door.
I bit my lower lip, before pushing the door open.
"I'm not Dylan." I whispered shyly, before closing the door behind me.
Travis' head turned towards my direction, as a surprised expression appeared on his face.
He was laying on his bed with his headphones in his ears.
"Oh, Riley." he muttered under his breath, before pulling his headphones out. "Can I help you with something?"
Travis was being harsh- but I didn't blame him.
He had every right to be angry at me, especially after I questioned about our trust.
"I wanted to say," I let out a deep breath of air, "sorry."
Travis raised an eyebrow, before blinking. "Sorry? For what?"
I closed my eyes briefly, before taking the empty spot beside him on his bed.
"I wanted to say sorry for not trusting you a few days ago about Scarlet." I muttered. "I should've just believed what you had to say."
Travis stayed quiet, and I was afraid that he was genuinely mad for a moment there, but then he let out an amused smirk.
I frowned, wondering why Travis suddenly found all of this so hilarious.
"Why are you laughing?" I asked, slapping his shoulder. "I'm trying to apologize here."
Travis chuckled, as he rubbed the back of his neck with his palms.
"You're just too cute for your own good, that's all."

    Chapter 39
"Scarlet." I knocked on Scarlet's bedroom door.
I heard muffling cries from the other side of the door, as I slowly wrenched the doorknob.
I bit on my lower lip, as Scarlet looked up at me from her bedsheets with bloodshot eyes.
"What are you doing here?" her voice was croaky.
I closed the door behind me, cautiously walking towards Scarlet, who looked completely exhausted.
"I wanted to check up on you." I said, sitting on the edge of her bed. "That, and because you haven't been answering any of my calls."
Scarlet closed her eyes, letting out a deep breath of air.
I noticed that her gaze was somewhere focused on the ground, as I followed her stare.
I saw her phone shattered into pieces, her favorite pink phone case cracked in half.
"I got tired of everyone calling and texting me about what they heard in school." Scarlet muttered.
I let out a deep sigh, my heart almost breaking at the sight of someone who used to be so close to me, completely broken.
"So, have you been throwing up a lot lately?" I asked.
A small smile suddenly appeared on Scarlet's dry lips, as she nodded weakly.
    "Oh, tons." she chuckled.
"What does your mom think about all this?" I asked, plucking a loose strand of thread from her blankets.
"She knows." Scarlet licked her lips. "We've been trying to find a way to tell dad, though."
I nodded slowly, remembering how Scarlet's parents are divorced.
While Scarlet's mother was more relaxed and caring, her father was the opposite.
If he ever found out that Scarlet was pregnant, he would kill the baby's father first.
Then, possibly, he would kill the baby as well.
As far as I remembered, he was cold and heartless.
"That reminds me," I paused, "who is the baby daddy?"
Scarlet turned towards me, her eyes weak and tired.
"It's not Travis, if you were wondering." Scarlet said.
My eyes snapped towards her, as my cheeks turned flaming red. "I-I know."
Scarlet chuckled, before shaking her head. "Don't let him go, Riley. Throughout my years knowing you, I've never seen a guy make you happy before until Travis came along."
I stared at her, before a faint smile appeared on my face."You mean that, Scar?"
Scarlet nodded, smiling. "I mean it. And I'm sorry for trying to sabotage you guys. I was just jealous." she breathed. "You don't hate me, right?"
I closed my eyes, before shaking my head with a laugh. "I could never hate you, no matter what you do to me."
    Scarlet laughed, before sighing. "Riley?"
    "Yes?"
"I think Lola's boyfriend is my baby's father."

    Chapter 38
I've called Scarlet's cell phone at least twenty times by now and she has yet to answer.
Everytime I called, the reciever went straight to voicemail.
It has been hours after Lola broke the news by confirming Scarlet's pregnancy, and I was getting frustrated and impatient.
Scarlet and I were far from best friends right now, but I needed to know is she was okay and who the hell was the father of her baby.
"Crap, why isn't she answering?" I hissed, tossing my phone down on Travis' bed forcefully.
Travis, who was sulking lazily in his couch, wrapped his arms around my waist.
He pulled me towards him, as I laid over his body.
"Stop worrying." Travis kissed my hair. "Scarlet's a big girl. She can take care of herself."
I groaned, burying my face in his neck, breathing in his scent.
"I hope so." I sighed. "I just want to know who the father is."
I suddenly thought back to how Travis and Scarlet once slept with each other.
Then, I reminded myself that the last time they hooked up was two years ago, and there was no possible way that Travis could've been the baby's father.
I felt defeated, wondering why I was even doubting Travis.
I loved and trusted him, and I shouldn't have even second guessed him.
"Riley?" Travis' warm breath tickled my bare neck. "What are you thinking about?"
I don't know what overcame me when I asked Travis this very next question.
Maybe I've been thinking to much about this topic, or maybe I'm just merely curious.
My fists tightened, as I rolled over, staring Travis right in the eye.
"Was she good, Travis?" I whispered, hardly recognizing my jealous tone.
Travis suddenly tensed up, as he sat up, so that I was no longer on his lap.
He stared at me with wide eyes full of disbelief. "What?"
"Was Scarlet good?" I repeated. "In bed?"
Travis blinked, before scoffing. "Riley, are you really asking me this?"
I frowned, before nodding obnoxiously. "Yes!" I snapped. "Answer my question."
I knew it was a mistake asking Travis about this question in the first place, but I just couldn't contain myself.
It was as if I blurted it out suddenly out of curiousity.
"No." Travis strenly said, looking angry all the sudden. "I'm not answering your question, because quite frankly, it's a very stupid one."
I glared at him, crossing my arms. "Why won't you just admit that you liked your time in bed with Scarlet?"
Travis tightened his jaw, before standing up. "You're too worked up right now, Riley." he muttered, shaking his head. "I think you should go home."
I knew I was going to regret the second I stepped out of his house.
I knew I was going to regret not apologizing to Travis.
And when I left his house, after taking the very first step, I did.
    I felt complete regret.

    Chapter 36
"So, do we hold hands or something?" I asked Travis nervously, as we snuggled up against each other in his bed later that night.
Travis smirked, as his fingers played with the ending tips of my brown locks.
"Well, truth be told, I'd rather makeout." he chuckled teasingly, earning a murderous glare from me. "But, holding hands sound nice, too."
I rolled my eyes, slapping my palm against his, before gently releasing my fingers around his.
"You should get neither for being so picky." I snapped jokingly. "But, you're lucky that I don't hate you."
Travis smiled, biting his lower lip teasingly.
My eyes immediately shifted down towards his rosy red lips, as I had the sudden urge to press my lips against his.
I looked away, as I felt my cheeks turning warm by just thinking about how attractive he looked at this moment.
"So, does that mean you like me?" Travis whispered, his hot breath tickling the edge of my ear.
I narrowed my eyes at him, but I couldn't help but crack a small smile.
Everything about Travis made me unreasonably happy- and it was driving me insane.
"I never said I like you." I scoffed.
Travis let out a snort, before wrapping his arms around my waist tightly.
"Right, you don't need to say anything, Riley." he whispered, planting a light kiss on my cheek. "I know that you like me without you having to say it."
I got shivers just from being so near him, so I pushed him away from me.
"You're too full of yourself, Travis." I licked my lips, before smiling.
    Scarlet's Point of View
I held up the little white stick in my hands, staring at the blue plus sign with disbelief.
I wasn't crying yet, but I knew I was about to burst into uncontrollable tears in any second.
    I was pregnant.
"So, what is it?" Lola asked impatiently, knocking from outside of my bathroom door. "Are you knocked up or not?"
The first tear finally slipped from my eyes, but that was not the last one.
My cheeks turned red in a matter of seconds, matching the color of my bloodshot eyes.
I slowly opened the door, as it creeked open.
Lola was leaning against the door frame, crossing her arms.
When she saw my tear-stained cheeks, her mouth dropped open.
"No way." she muttered, before laughing obnoxiously. "You're pregnant! I have to tell everyone about this!"
My eyes widened, as I slapped Lola's phone away from her hands.
It fell on the floor, but it didn't break.
"What the hell, Scarlet?" she hissed, glaring at me. "You could've broken it!"
"You can't tell anyone that I'm pregnant!" I begged.
Lola held my gaze, before she snickered.
"Of course not, Scar. Why would I ever?" she asked sweetly. "I am your best friend, right?"
I nodded, before giving her a weak smile.
    "Right."
I'm not sure if I'm updating on Monday or Tuesday, but in advance, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
I love you all to bits and pieces.

    Chapter 35
I stared at Travis with disbelief, as he slapped his pack of cigarettes down onto my palm.
My lips parted, as I blinked unconsciously at the rectangular box that just fit in my hands.
Travis looked away from me, before blowing out another gust of smoke.
My heart was slowly sinking, as I felt myself holding in my breath.
Did Travis honestly not care if took a smoke or not?
After all this time I spent trying to convince Travis to cut off on the nicotine, he was actually going to let me take one myself?
My blood began to boil, as I glared at Travis.
I hastily went over to rip the cover off of the pack of cigarettes, as I shoved one in my mouth.
It hasn't even been lit yet, and I hated the taste of it already.
    "Lighter." I demanded.
Travis gave me a short glance, before letting out a deep breath of air.
He reached into his pocket, taking out a solid black lighter.
My heart was racing as the lighter was held closer and closer towards me, until it reached the tip of my cigarette.
Travis hesitated, staring me dead in the eye.
I didn't look away, afraid of showing weakness.
"I'm not letting you do this." he sighed, before tossing the lighter off to the ground, sending it flying across the concrete.
With one hard tug, he pulled the cigarette from my mouth, smushing it with his foot.
"Is there something wrong with you?" he asked, his breath smelling of heavy smoke. "Why the hell in the right mind would you even consider smoking?"
I glared at him, pushing his shoulder back so that he would back away from me.
"Shut up, Travis." I hissed. "You should've let me had that one cigarette. I mean, it wouldn't kill me, would it?" I snapped, repeating the same words he used towards me weeks ago.
Travis stared at me, long and hard.
I saw his green orbs soften for just a short second, before they snapped back to being harsh and cold.
"Riley, I care about you, that's all." he said lowly, sending shivers down my spine.
I closed my eyes, pushing myself off the bench.
I stared at him one last time with teary eyes, before shaking my head with a weak smile.
"No, Travis." I whispered in a croaky tone. "You don't get to care about me."
Before I got to see the reaction that Travis had, I turned my back on him.
As my arms trembled by my sides, I walked away from him.
    One, two, three, four, fiv-
A strong force pulled me backwards, as I felt my lips being pressed against Travis'.
I didn't have to open my eyes to see who it was; I could tell by the smokey mint scent that Travis always had on him.
His soft and warm lips morphed against mine, as he kissed me with need.
I didn't know what to do but to kiss him back and wrap my arms around him, as he pulled my closer to his chest.

    Chapter 34
Dylan's words kept playing in the back of my mind as I exited the school later that afternoon.
    You should talk to him.
A fit of cold shivers went sending down my spine, as I briefly closed my eyes.
Travis finally came to school for the first time today in the past week.
I gave him a short glance, but quickly looked away before he caught my gaze.
But, in that split second when my eyes flashed over to his, I noticed that he didn't look too well.
His hair was messier than usual, his face was pale and hollow, and there were dark, purple circles forming under his eyes.
My heart also sank when I saw that his shirt was wrinkled by the collar, and there was a little smudge of lipstick by his neck.
Throughout the entire day, I couldn't help but wonder if he had forgotten about me already.
I didn't want to think about it, but I knew that there was a possibility that Lola and Scarlet could've been right.
Travis was only playing with me- and threw me out because he got bored.
I gulped down the tears that threatened to spill from my eyes, as I continued walking home.
On my way home, I always passed by our neighborhood park.
In that park was the very bench that Travis and I used to sit at during late nights, and talk about anything; just anything.
I couldn't even stop myself before I realized that I was walking towards the empty bench.
My fingers trailed along the old, dry wood before I took a seat.
For the first time in days, just sitting alone on that bench, I felt tired.
My eyes began to slowly drift off, as I found myself falling asleep.
    ***
I was awakened by an awful smell.
The smoke was filling in my nose, making my eyes snap open immediately.
I looked around, noticing that the sky had gotten dark already, meaning that I had to be asleep for at least a good two hours.
I suddenly looked over to my side, jolting up as I watched Travis calmly take a drag out of his cigarette.
He glanced over at me, raising an eyebrow. "Didn't anyone ever tell you not to sleep on park benches, alone?"
I blinked at him surprisingly, before he tossed his cigarette on the concrete, rubbing it out with the sole of his boot.
I watched as he reached his pocket to light up another one.
Just as Travis was about to flick on his lighter, he stared at me carefully.
"Have you been sleeping?" he asked.
I glared at him, hating him for being so calm and collected.
"That doesn't matter." my voice was croaky from just waking up.
I noticed how Travis glanced over at me as I spoke, before gulping.
"Give me a cigarette." I demanded, holding my hand out.
I didn't know what I was doing- maybe I just wanted to prove something to Traivs.
Part of me wanted him to say no, but the other part of me wanted to forget it all.
Travis stared at me blankly, before letting out of puff of smoke.
"Here." he said, tossing me the entire packet. "Have fun."

    Chapter 33
"You know, he's turned into his grumpy self again since you guys stopped talking." Dylan said, once I finished speaking.
I raised an eyebrow, scoffing. "Wasn't he always this grumpy?"
Dylan licked his lips, before shrugging. "I guess so." he paused. "But, ever since he met you, he stopped being so hard all of the time. Everyone's noticed that he's stopped smoking for the first time in years, but he just recently started it up again. I think you're the reason why he caved."
I stared down at my mug of coffee, which was now getting colder and colder by the minute.
I wrapped my fingers around the cup, trying to get as much heat as I could from it.
I hadn't even been close enough to Travis this past week to notice if he's started smoking again.
Occasionally, I would sneak glances over at him, but they would never last long enough for me to notice any evident changes in his features.
Also, he's only come to school twice since we've seperated our ways.
"You should talk to him." Dylan suddenly said, making my eyes snap at him.
    Was he absurd?
Ever since I've realized that I had feelings for Travis, I could barely look him in the eyes, let alone speak to him.
My head began to pound painfully, as Dylan offered me a weak smile.
"Listen, my shift is starting up again in a minute." he said. "I'll see you sometime, but think about what I said, okay?"
Dylan stared at me hesitantly, before getting up to go back to work.

    Travis' Point of View
"Travis, your father and I get back home for the first time in weeks and we find out that you haven't been going to school?" my mother scolded the second she saw me still in my bed the next morning.
I groaned, wishing that she would stop talking already.
I was out last night, and had a few too many drinks.
My head was killing me right now, and I couldn't think straight.
My mother suddenly paused, sniffing the air.
Her high nose scrunched up in disgust, before she shot me a glare. "Is that alcohol I smell?" she snapped, crossing her arms. "That's it, Travis. Get up, you're going to school right now."
"My head hurts too much to learn." I muffled in my pillow.
My mother picked me up from the back collar of my shirt, lifting my head up.
"I don't care, Travis Kapone." she hissed. "You're going to school, no matter what."
I glared at her with tired eyes, before I rolled over in bed, faced up.
"Hurry up, I'll be waiting in the car to drive you today." my mother nodded shortly, before closing the bedroom door behind her.
I can't believe that she was actually making me to go school with a hangover.
I can't believe that she was making me go to school in general.
If I went to school, then I would have to see Riley.
I don't think I could control myself if I even looked at her.

    Chapter 32
I've had trouble sleeping for the past few days.
I always stayed up, with my mind preoccupied with thoughts about how quickly I lost both Scarlet and Travis with the snap of my fingers.
I buried my face in my pillow, letting my tears stain the pillowcase.
Where did I ever go wrong?
What had I ever done to deserve all of this?
I've always been quiet and blended in with the crowd, but now, I was the center of everyone's talk.
People were still talking about how I had gotten soda thrown over me from days ago, and they would always shook me snarky remarks as I walked down the hallways.
"You look a little under the weather today, Riley." Lola said in a sickley sweet voice. "Did Travis finally get bored of you?"
I groaned at the memory, remembering how bright my cheeks had turned.
I glanced over at my digital clock, noticing that it was six in the morning.
I had gotten a minimum of ten minutes of sleep last night.
It was a bit too early to go to school, but I couldn't stand laying in bed any longer, so I got up and took a quick, cold shower.
The icy water drained away my thoughts, as I threw on a knitted sweater and a pair of distressed jeans that were ages too old.
The morning brisk was chilly, and it was still dark outside.
I figured that I would go to the coffee shop a few blocks from school, since I needed the extra boost of energy if I was going to survive another day.
I was surprised to find that the coffee shop was packed, but I also remembered that it was a few minutes into rush hour.
Business men and women were all pushing people out of the way hurriedly, holding their to-go mugs in their hands.
When I was next in line, I noticed that someone very familiar was at the cashier.
"Riley?" the cashier asked, a grin spreading across his lips. "I thought it was you!"
I remembered the moppy blonde from anywhere, as I smiled at Dylan.
"Hey." I gave him a weak smile. "I didn't know you worked here."
Dylan rolled his eyes. "Well, I just started-"
"Dylan, no chatting with the customers! Get to work!" a scruffy woman glared at Dylan, who groaned.
"Wait five minutes, okay?" Dylan smiled. "I'll be on break by then, and I'll get you a cup of coffee."
I nodded, stepping out of the line to wait for Dylan by one of the booths.
Five minutes later, the coffee shop was still busy, but not as wild as it was a while ago.
Dylan finally came over to where I was, two mugs in his hands.
"I hope you like mocha lattes?" he raised an eyebrow. "It's my specialty."
I laughed before taking a small sip.
The hot liquid burned the roof of my mouth, but it still tasted amazing.
"I love it." I nodded in satisfaction.
Dylan stared at me for a moment, and thats when I finally realized that his eyes were brown.
His eyes were soft, but behind them laid many secrets that didn't want to be spoken about.
"How come I never see you come over anymore?" Dylan asked, a soft smile appeared on his lips. "Did something happen between you and Travis?"
    Oh Lord, not this again.

    Chapter 31
I haven't been able to look Travis in the eye since we nearly kissed a week ago.
Every time we walked by each other in the hallways, I made sure to go the other way.
Whenever he came close to talking to me, I would always make up an excuse to avoid him.
I knew that I was being unfair and unreasonable by pushing Travis away, but when we were just inches from our lips touching, I realized something.
I realized that I didn't know what I would do without Travis.
I was scared, looking into his eyes, knowing that I was going to need him more than he needed me.
I was scared that he didn't love me back.
"Get out." Travis muttered coldly under his breath when I was talking to a classmate of mine, Carla, in an empty classroom the next morning.
Carla stared back at Travis with widened eyes, full of fear.
She shot me a quick glance, before rushing to gather her belongings.
She scattered out of the room in a matter of seconds.
I didn't blame her for being so eager to leave, though.
The look Travis had on his face was intimidating.
His face was pale, his eyes were dark, and his jaw was clenched together tightly.
But to me, he was still unbelievably attractive.
Before I could let my feelings get in the way, I reached for my bag that was on the desk.
"I should go, too." I whispered, trying make my way around Travis.
Travis shot his two arms out in front of me, locking me in place.
My back was pressed against the desk, as Travis hovered over me.
"Are you trying to avoid me?" Travis asked lowly, his hot breath sending shivers down my spine.
I shuddered, before biting down on my lower lip.
I saw Travis' eyes flicker to my lips for a split second, before they snapped back to my eyes.
"Travis," I started off, feeling breathleass already, "I need to go."
Travis stared at me, long and hard. "You're being stupid."
I was taken aback by his harsh words at first, but when they finally sunk in, it felt like a bullet had pierced through my heart.
"What?" I whispered, my voice barely audible.
"You're not talking to me because of what almost happened last week." Travis' voice was cold, nothing nice about it at all. "You're trying to make such a big deal out of something that didn't even matter."
I hadn't even noticed the pool of tears that welled up in my eyes before I felt a warm tear sliding down my cheek, burning my skin.
Travis' eyes softened for a second, before they became dark and unwelcoming once again.
"I'm sorry, Travis." I let out a shaky whisper. "I'm sorry that it meant so much to me."
I pushed Travis' arms away from me, as I felt myself sprinting towards the door.
I suddenly heard Travis slamming his fists against the desk.
Maybe, just maybe, I thought that he might've ran after me.
    But, he didn't.
And what happened, just right there, proved something.
It proved to me that I was right, for once.
I was right when I said that Travis would never love me back.

    Chapter 30
    Travis' Point of View
"You aren't stoned this time." I pointed out glumly when Dylan asked me to meet him at the local diner.
It was late at night, and the place was completely empty, with the expection of the waitress, who had fallen asleep on the counter.
"Shut up." Dylan muttered, letting out a long sigh.
Rolling my eyes, I leaned over to table to find out what Dylan wanted from me this time. "Do you need more money or something?" I asked. "Because I already told you before, Dylan, I can't keep-"
"I don't need money." Dylan cut me off, shooting me a glare. "Your expectations aren't too high of me, are they?"
I clenched my jaw, suddenly feeling anger towards my adoptive brother.
"What the hell do you mean by that?" I spat under my breath. "Am I supposed to think highly of you if you're on drugs every time I see you?"
Dylan stared down at his fingers with shame, as I felt my chest heaving up and down.
I fumbled in my pocket, looking for my pack of cigarettes.
Cigarettes always eased me down and kept my life out of stress.
But then, I suddenly remembered that I made a promise to Riley that I wasn't going to smoke anymore.
I cursed under my breath, as I shut my eyes close.
Riley sure made a loyal man out of me.
"I want to come home, Travis." Dylan suddenly said so lowly under his breath, I wasn't sure if I heard him right.
I choked on my own saliva, staring at Dylan with disbelief.
Right when Dylan turned eighteen, he moved out of our house and went to crash over to one of his druggie friend's trailer, a few towns away.
The place he was staying was dangerous, and I knew from experience.
What the hell made him want to come back now?
"You want to what?" I repeated.
Dylan let out a dramatic breath of air, before he ran a hand through his blonde hair.
"I'm twenty now, Travis. My life is going no where, and I'm surviving off of the money I get for selling crack. I just want to go home and restart things."
I blinked hard, wondering what my mother and father would think of it.
A part of me thinks that Dylan would get kicked out the moment he steps in, but another part of me thinks that my parents will welcome him with opened arms.
    "Crap, Dylan." I muttered. "I don't know."
Dylan gave me knowingly weak smile, before nodding slowly. "Why not?" he asked teasingly. "Is it because your new girlfriend's preoccupied your life?"
My eyes snapped to him, as I immediately thought of Riley.
"Riley isn't my girlfriend." I said quickly, shooting him a glare.
Dylan rolled his eyes. "Right, Travis." he mumbled sarcastically. "Riley is hot and single, why don't you just date her already?"
I stayed quiet, sighing down at my hands that were locked.
"Are you scared?" Dylan suddenly asked.
I held in my breath, before letting out an exaggerated breath of air.
    "Petrified."

    Chapter 29
My living room was completely dark, with the exception of the dimmed light coming from the television.
Travis' arm was around me, pulling me in close to his chest.
I listened to every heartbeat of his, barely paying attention to the movie that the two of us had picked out.
Travis, on the other hand, had his gaze glued on the screen.
I stared up, noticing that his forest green eyes reflected the images from the television.
I gulped, before licking my lips.
To even think that Travis had once been with Scarlet made me cringe.
I never thought of the two of them being a couple, but who knew?
I never thought that I would've fallen for Travis, either.
My hands trembled, as I suddenly felt insecure about myself.
If Scarlet said that her and Travis had once slept together, and Travis didn't deny it, that meant that he was experienced.
I, on the other hand, haven't even had my first kiss yet.
Sighing, I thought about just how pathetic I was compared to Travis.
"You okay?" Travis whispered, his hot breath tickling the nape of my neck. "You've been off in your own world for the past few minutes."
I looked up at Travis, staring at the way his lips moved every time a word escaped his mouth.
He suddenly caught my gaze, making my cheeks turn flush red.
I stared back down at my tangled fingers, as I heard a soft chuckle above me.
"Riley," Travis said in a teasing tone, suddenly sending shivers down my spine, "were you staring at my lips?"
I clenched my jaw, as I shot a glare up at Travis, who was now smirking down at me with satisfaction. "No." I stubbornly muttered.
Travis laughed obnoxiously, as if he knew I was lying.
I suddenly felt him pulling me up, as our faces met each others.
He had a playful smirk across his rosy red lips, as he tilted my chin up with his index finger.
"Are you sure about that?" he breathed, his hands suddenly brushing my hair away from my neck.
My heart was hammering against my chest at just our close proximity, as I gulped.
"I'm sure." my voice came out high and unconvincing.
Travis suddenly licked his lips, only tempting me more. "I don't believe you." he whispered. "Are you sure you don't to kiss me?"
I blinked, as I watched Travis' eyes twinkle with amusement.
I finally came to realization that Travis had no intention of kissing me.
He wanted to tease me- that was all.
I decided to press my hands up against his chest, to push him away.
But, before I could, I felt his heart beat under my hands.
I almost gasped when they were fast- just like mine were.
    Did he want to-
A suddenly quacking noise filled the room, making me spring away from Travis.
Travis groaned, as he dug in his pocket.
"I knew I should've changed that ringtone ages ago." Travis cursed under his breath, as I started to laugh.

    Chapter 28
I hadn't even realized that Scarlet and I have disconnected ever since she confessed to me that she and Travis were together at one point in their lives.
I finally noticed that the two of us haven't been as close when I saw her sitting in lunch with all of her friends from cheerleading.
She had her strawberry blonde locks tied in a ponytail, with a bow in the center that had our school colors on it.
She was wearing her cheerleading uniform, and had her pom poms on her lap.
"Hi, Scarlet." I approached her, as everyone at her table stopped talking to stare at me in disgust.
Scarlet cleared her throat, before she gave me a tight smile. "Riley," she gritted through her teeth, "I didn't know that you still thought I exist."
Her words pierced through me like bullets, as I held in a shaky breath.
A bunch of the girls sitting around her laughed, giving me disgusted snickers.
"How do you leave Scarlet in the dark for some delinquent?" Lola, the cheer captain asked, raising an eyebrow.
My lip quivered, as I looked over at Scarlet, who didn't even dare to look me in the eyes.
Her focus was on the three sticks of celery that she had in front of her tray.
"You've got to admit, though." a red head suddenly piped up. "Travis Kapone is a hot piece of meat."
Lola smirked, rolling her eyes. "Obviously." she stared at her manicured fingers. "I just don't understand why he would go for a tramp like Riley, when he could have one of us."
I saw Scarlet narrowing her eyes at Lola, before she cleared her throat.
"Why don't you just leave, Riley?" she muttered under her breath.
My heart was pounding, as I stared at my best friend in disbelief.
Was this the end of our friendship?
We've been with each other since middle school, and she was just throwing it all out.
"By the way, Riley, you've got something on your face." Lola pointed out, before she picked up can of diet soda from her tray.
Before I knew it, the soda splashed all over me, dripping me from head to toe.
By now, the entire lunch room had their heads turned my way, laughing.
My cheeks turned bright red, as tears threatened to spill from my eyes.
"Coke isn't a cute color on you!" the red head shouted, as I ran out of the cafeteria.
    *
I went home earlier that day so that I could wash all of that sticky Coke out of my hair.
Just an hour after I left school grounds, there was a ring at my doorbell.
Travis stood by my doorway, hands shoved in his pockets.
He chose today, again, to not where a shirt under his hoodie, revealing his tattoos.
"Travis," I muttered, staring down at the ground, "what are you doing here?"
Travis didn't say anything, as he invited himself in my house.
He looked around, before nodding slowly.
"So, is this how a normal house looks like?" he asked, referring to the fact that he practically lived in a mansion.
"Pretty much." I mumbled. "It's nothing compared to your house. I mean, your house is all big and you have a hot tub in your backyard, oh and that-"
"So, do you want to watch a movie or what?" Travis cut me off, raising an eyebrow.
I stared at him with disbelief for a moment, until I felt the corners of my lips tug up.
"Stop smiling and drooling over me and pick out a movie." Travis smirked.

    Chapter 27
I laid in Travis' bed, where his arms were snaked around my waist.
The two of us felt right together.
In his arms, I felt infinite.
I felt safe and secure, like I could be whoever I wanted to be without being judged by someone.
I was also a hundred percent sure that Travis felt the same way about me, since he has told me before that he liked that I hadn't criticized him the way most people did.
The only thing I wasn't sure about was if he returned the same feelings that I had for him.
Whenever I tried to ask him about it, I would always get choked up.
My mouth went dry every time I opened my mouth to ask him about it, and my heart would start beating in an irregular rate.
"You're shaking." Travis suddenly muttered into my hair, pulling me back a little bit. "Are you cold?"
I hadn't even realized that I was trembling until he pointed it out.
Plastering a forced smile upon my lips, I shook my head. "I'm fine."
Travis looked at me hesitantly, as if he knew that I was lying.
But, he decided to not say anything.
He pulled me back into his chest tightly, the back of my head buried in his neck.
Closing my eyes, I breathed in his musky scent that I grew to love.
"This feels right." Travis suddenly whispered, making my snap my eyes open.
Pulling away from him, I rolled over so that my face was facing his.
I frowned, licking my lips. "What do you mean?"
Travis' eyes were closed, as his long lashes touched his cheeks.
I bit in my lower lip, as my eyes trailed down to his rosy pink lips that were just slightly parted.
"I'll never trust another girl the way I trust you." Travis muttered under his breath, as if he was talking in his sleep.
I gulped the ball that was clogged up in my throat, as my fingers reached out to brush away the dark strand of hair that had fallen in his eyes.
I took in a deep breath, noticing how badly I wanted to be the girl that he trusts so much.
"Travis." I shook his shoulders, trying to get him to wake up.
Travis barely stirred, as he knitted his eyebrows together. "Hm?" he hummed.
My hands suddenly shook, as my heart dropped to the pit of my stomach.
Travis was half asleep, and I've never wanted to tell someone something as much as I wanted to tell him right now.
"Travis, I-" I paused, letting out a short breath of air, "I love you."
Travis didn't respond, and I took it to conclusion that he had fallen asleep.
Sighing, I laid myself back down so that I was positioned in his arms.
I closed my eyes, as my heart pounded rapidly against my chest from the confession I just made.
I just admitted to Travis Kapone that I love him.
It crushed me to the core that I was never going to find out how he felt about it.
    Travis' Point of View
"I love you." I heard Riley whisper, just as I was about to knock out.
I suddenly didn't feel so tired anymore, as my senses woke me up.
Riley stayed silent for a moment, probably waiting for me to say something.
    But, I just couldn't.
I guess she thought that I had fallen asleep, because I heard her sighing before she laid back in my arms, where she belonged.
She finally fell asleep half an hour later, but I was still wide awake.
    I love you.
Closing my eyes, I clenched my jaw.
    Riley couldn't love me.
    She was making a mistake.
