Tears Slide, Blood Glides
She kept getting yelled at, for the things she didn’t do. Her younger sisters are spoiled and she is the Cinderella. She can’t help it, being the odd one—but she does control her emotions. Sometimes.
Kiara isn’t thin, or athletic. She lives in a world where her parents fight, her sisters are picky, and she’s left out. She eats the scraps of her family, and if she does something wrong, she doesn’t eat at all.
You could say it’s a Harry Potter/Cinderella story… it could be, but the part of the wands and spells and cauldrons, and the balls and the royalty and glass slippers aren’t anywhere involved.
Kiara doesn’t eat at school, or anywhere in public, if she goes anywhere. She’s scared that everyone who sees her will take pictures of her and send them to people making fun of her, or she’ll get teased for her figure.
In a nutshell, Kiara’s life downright sucks.
It’s morning, and Kiara is just emerging from sleep. She’s wrapped in her blankets as tight as she could make them to stop thinking about school.
Unfortunately for her, time doesn’t escape, and she crawls slowly out of bed. Kiara hears a call from downstairs, “KIARA! GET YOUR LAZY BUTT READY FOR SCHOOL!”
Kiara can do nothing but close her eyes and think of the worst that could happen today. After all, it’s Tuesday; gym day.
Being only twelve years old, in 6th grade, she’s terribly overweight and everyone knows it. Kiara knows her body; she hates it, too. She knows she’ll have to work with it hard today.
There comes a time in everyone’s life when you have a gym class. For Kiara, this is one of her many times in that class.
The bus comes by the house where Kiara gets her ride to school. School… The only place where she isn’t enslaved or forced to scrub the floors or pushed to make a specific meal. School is like Kiara’s original home.
“Hey, Kiki!” Screamed Kiara’s best friend Amber. Kiara giggled and embraced herself for the day.
