And the heart is hard to translate,
It has a language of its own,
It talks in tongues and quiet sighs,
    And prayers and proclamations,
In the grandest of great men,
    In the smallest of gestures,
    In short shallow gasps.

    Au champ d'honneur, les coquelicots
Sont parsemés de lot en lot
Auprès des croix; et dans l'espace
    Les alouettes devenues lasses
    Mêlent leurs chants au sifflement
    Des obusiers.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow
Loved and were loved, and now we live
    In Flanders fields.
    À vous jeunes désabusés
    À vous de porter l'oriflamme
Et de garder au fond de l'âme
Le goût de vivre en liberté.
    Acceptez les défi, sinon
    Les coquelicots se faneront
    Au champ d'honneur.

The night skies was like black coffee,
dark as my entire soul in my body.
The stars was like cut sugar cubes,
The moon was the metallic spoon,
Stiring the night into the morning,
The skies clouds were like expresso foam,
The smoke on the coffee was the wind,
trees were the colour of coffee beans.
I woke, up to the smell of coffee in the air,
A sweet aroma, fragance, among the air.
My hair was tousled, but I didn't care.
I went to the kitchen, with you stirring the coffee.

(n.) the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own-
populated with their own ambitions, friends,
routines, worries and inherited craziness- an
epic story that continues invisibly around you
like an anthill sprawing deep underground,
with elaborate passageways to thousands of
other lives that you'll never know existed, in
which you might appear only once, as an extra
sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of
traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted
    window at dusk.

Why is the term “friend zone” so popular when the term “unrequited love” already exists and is more accurate?
I suspect it’s because it shifts the locus of responsibility. “Unrequited love” focuses on the person who has the crush. The feelings being discussed are the crushing person’s, thus the responsibility in on them to get over their crush and move on. “Friend zone”, on the other hand, focuses on the crush object’s choices. The phrase erases the agency of the crushing person. All blame for their pain is put on the crush object. “Unrequited love” is something that can happen to both sexes, but “friend zone” is a sexist concept that implies that women are solely responsible for men’s happiness, and not men themselves.

you started by biting at my ankles
    but soon enough your tide held my whole body;
    a gentle current became
    violent waves that crashed through my core;
and your kisses left me gasping for breath
with blue lips and shriveled fingertips,
but you injected the salt water into my own veins
    and since the dreaded tsunami
was a part of me as well,
    i had to blame myself.
    c.k.

I envision fragments of your life spread out across the night sky.
    there's constellations sculpted by pieces of your wedding day;
lighting up the sky, yet breaking my heart.
    Shooting stars of children;
ones that will have your eyes and her hair
never the dimple on my chin.
I name the rest of the stars after the reasons that I love you
and I watch myself turn yet another beautiful thing in a memory of you

they are the ones who didn't make it,
the ones whose notebooks are filled with scrawl
    and scribbled out words,
those who struggle to find inspiration
and find inspiration in their struggle.
those for whom effort is not only lifeblood,
    but poison.
success an apple, so crisp, so sweet,
laced with hatred by life itself.
they are the ones who worked hard,
built bridges only to burn them,
they are the ones who stayed home,
because the world took too much.

the sun blinds my eyes, rips through the fibres with the force of an angry star. it burns into my brain, tears through my perception and scars my memories, drenching them in sunlight - making the past look golden and oh so desirable.
it also dulls my senses, forces the future to forever compete with days that once were and people long gone. i avoid sunny days, and i do not look up.

you don't get it. i'm not sad and miserable all the time. i have this deep feeling inside me that takes all of these emotions at once and mushes them all together to create something i can't exactly describe. i'm suffocating in my own body. i can actually feel myself slipping away. i can be surrounded by so many wonderful people and have this feeling that no one even wants me there and that i'm a burden. so i isolate myself from everyone and keep them all at a certain distance so i don't end up getting hurt. but that doesn't work. i hurt anyway. i hurt all the time and i don't know why. i'm forced into this skin that isn't mine. i've tried cutting my way out releasing whatever there is inside but it always comes back and i don't understand. i just know i'm not 'sad and miserable.'

Blank lined pages used to be my safe haven, where I would write down words and watch the world sort itself out. It is still like that, but not nearly the same. Now there are words that are better left unwritten; writing down words gives something of their kin somewhere in the universe power, and I'm not sure I'm always ready for that.
