Love Never Dies, Right?
Chapter 4
Next thing I know, there is a crying 7 year old in my arms.
Blood all over his face, hands, and clothes.
I lean down on my knees and hold him for a second.
Moments pass; we just cry.
When I open my eyes, I see black, white, and Red.
Andy still in my arms, I stand, tears flowing still.
Looking straight ahead, I see the paramedics have strapped her into a stretcher.
She is responding; But barely.
She is breathing; but each breathe labored and short.
Why?
I want it to be me, not her. Not Anna.
Not my bestfriend, not my girl.
An EMT approaches me and asks me to ride in the ambulance to stay with Andy.
He still is crying, his breathes are gasps of pain, fear, and confusion.
A near by neighbor, Mrs. Drayer, rides along, because she witnessed everything and has lisence plates numbers. And she is an adult.
Even she is crying her hardest. I've known her all my life, she used to bake me and Anna chocolate chip cookies all through elementary school. Still now, every other wednesday, me and Anna go just to talk to her. Keep her company.
"Excuse me. What is your relation to this boy?" Questions a nearby, hardeyed EMT. His black eyes strip me and interigate my deepest secrets.
He makes me feel uncomfortable.
His eyes violate me.
The ambulance sirens sound again. We are speeding to save Anna. Looking over to the middle, a foot away from me, lies Anna.
She looks...dead. She is not moving.
Even in this very tragic state, she still in the most beautiful girl in the world.
Beautiful beyond imagination.
"Landy. He is my bestest friend. He, also, is Anna's bestestest friend too!! He must be here, I want him here, my mommy and daddy would want him here." Andy basically is screaming. "Anna needs him here." He finishes calmly.
Tears still fall from both our eyes.
Every single set of eyes in the ambulance are on Andy. except Anna's stunning brown eyes.
Anna did not even move.
Slowly, i slide her cold hand onto mine. I hold her hand, she feels like ice.
This can not be happening.
My phone rings. Mrs. Chant.
"Landon! How? What! Whats going on?" bawls Mrs. Chant, Anna's mom. Her voice is lined delicately with tears, and fear. "I'm on my way to the hospital. I'll be there as fast as I can, about an hour. Stay with my Anna, ad my Andy. Do absolutely anything you need too..." Her voice trails off, and I slightly hear Mr. Chant. He is tearing the phone out of his wife's hands. He is crying even harder then Mrs.
Anna is a Daddy'a girl.
"Landon, listen. This is my baby who is hurt..Please... Keep her safe. I trust you. Once at the hospital, get her into any surgery needed. We sope with the doctors already. Stay with my son, and don't let Anna out of your sight. Please....."
His voice breaks off. He sounds so pained. So unlike the tall, strong man I had known.
Pain can do that to anyone.
"Mr. and Mrs. Chant. I promise to do anything needed to keep your daughter and son safe." I state sharply.
I promise with all my heart; and they know that.
"Thanks Landon."
The line goes dead.
