By My Side
Chapter One
Do you ever get the feeling before you go out with friends, that something amazing will happen?
Well, before today, I never did.
I don't know, it's just, as I got ready, I thought twice about making my hair a little straighter, and my clothes a little nicer.
It was, different.
I do look presentable when I go out, but usually, I couldn't care less about looking more dressed up than a pair of shorts and a tanktop.
I mean, where I live, it's nice enough to be summer year round.
Once I got the text that Kyla was outside, I took a last look in the mirror before running out the door.
"Well, someone looks a little nice just to go to lunch." she grinned from the driver's seat of her older sister's hand-me-down Hyundai.
I shrugged, pulling at the hem on one of my favorite dress shirts.
"I just felt an urge to wear it today." I said, buckling my seatbelt.
Kyla glanced at me for another second, before slamming her foot on the gas pedal, accelerating us down the block.
With living in a small town, came the convienience of having nearly everything within a few blocks' radius.
That meant Kyla and I reached our favorite lunch destination, Kyto, quiet easily.
Kyto was a well known Chinese-Japanese restuarant around here, so it was usually always crowded.
To our surprise, however, no more than ten of the over thirty tables were filled, luckily.
"Just you two?" one of the owners, Lily, asked, grabbing two menus.
We both nodded, and followed her to our usual table, the one we take every Saturday afternoon.
"Here you girls go." she grinned, before disappearing back to the front counter.
"So, did I tell you about mine and Harry's date last night?" Kyla gushed, hugging herself.
I laughed softly, and shook my head.
Kyla wasted no time going into detail about where he'd taken her, what they ordered to drink and eat, what they talked about, what she wore, everything.
Harry and Kyla had been dating for just a few months, and she was definately head over heels for him.
But luckily for me, she knew how to keep her head down to Earth.
I laughed, remembering when Harry came up to me last week, asking for help about her.
He always does that. He wants everything to be perfect for his girl.
He's a good guy, but without her, he'd be like a chicken without a head.
"What about you, Kendall? Any guys in your life?" she questioned.
I shook my head, not really caring.
I was never one for a relationship, and that didn't bother me.
I hated all the drama, and tears, and annoyance that came with it.
Sure, I'd go on a date with whatever guy Kyla brings to the table, but that's it.
"Oh come on, Ken. You haven't had a date in months! Maybe Harry could set you up w-"
I quickly motioned for Kyla to stop speaking.
"Ky, you know I'm not one for that. It doesn't bother me, really. I'm fine." I said, truthfully.
Kyla slouched down in her seat and pouted, defeated.
I rolled my eyes playfully, and took a small sip of the water in front of me.
"I'll be right back," I began to Kyla, getting up to go to the bathroom.
She nodded, twirling her straw around in her iced tea, bored.
I laughed, glancing back at her, and spun back around, crashing straight into what felt like a wall.
"Ow." I whimpered, rubbing my forehead, as I sat on the ground.
"Aw s***! I'm so sorry!" Someone quickly said, gripping onto my arms, hoisting me up.
I looked at who I'd bumped into, seeing a boy, about my age.
"Are you okay?" he asked quickly and concerned, inspecting my forehead.
I sucked in the pain, and nodded.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'll just be going now." I mumbled, making my way towards the bathroom, embarassed.
-Okay, I like this one better, the other story I had no idea on. So, yeah c:
