One Word
~chapter one~
"Mia. You look... stunning."
Mia's icey blue eyes shined with excitement and pride. She looked at Luke, who's face also seemed to glow with boastfullness, but for a different reason. Mia was proud that she had gotten him. Luke was proud she was his.
After a few moments, Mia remembered to answer. "Thanks. You look amazing tonight, too. I mean, you always look amazing. Just, tonight, you look.. super amazing!" Mia gushed, feeling her soft porcelain cheeks flush in embarrassment. Luke just chuckled and took her hands, lacing their fingers together.
"Thanks." He touched her flushed cheek tenderly with his finger. A small smile spread across her lips at his touch. She looked up, into his eyes, and all in one moment, realized that it was real. She did love him- this perfect, handsome, and incredibly kind boy that stood in front of her.
Their lips met, and Mia allowed herself to melt into his arms for the first time. Their mouths moved in unison, their arms caressed each other like only a couple lost in love could. Slowly, their lips separated from each other's like a perfectly synchronized act. Mia laid her chest on his strong, defined chest covered by a white button-up and a black vest that was adorned with a purple flower in the corner that matched Mia's dress perfectly.
"Pictures! Mia Brynne Harper, don't do that, you'll mess up your hair!" Mia's mother piped loudly as she entered the room, completely ruining the moment. Mia shot her an aggravated look as she pulled herself from Luke's chest, but Luke just smiled and spoke politely.
"Hello, Mrs. Harper. Nice to see you again."
"You as well, Lukas." Her mother had a thing with calling people by their full names. "Now get together, I want prom pictures! My baby's growing up so fast- Junior prom already! Stand right there- a little to the right- don't knock over the plants!"
Mia and Luke went through fifteen minutes of adjusting, picture-snapping, and more adjusting before her mother finally let them go.
"Have fun, you two. Mia, you have your cell phone, and your car keys, and your back up- "
"Yes, Mother!" Mia huffed and closed the door in her mother's face. She mumbled an apology to Luke as they walked to his car, arms locked together. He kissed her temple gently in response, knowing that no words were needed. He helped her into the passenger's side of his expensive-looking car who's brand Mia couldn't name before entering the driver's seat and starting the car.
Mia didn't know why, but she was nervous. Luke must've picked this up, because before he pulled out of Mia's driveway, he pushed the hair from her face and smiled. "We're gonna have fun, Mia. There's nothing to worry about."
Mia nodded and grinned to assure him that she was okay before they pulled out of the driveway.
