What is love?
Love is when they help you through the worst part of your life and lead you to the best
Is when they look at you crying in front of a webcam, and sing their favorite break-up song to try to cheer you up
And when you tell them of why you hurt, of who hurt you, they get this look
As if they could kill that person
It’s looking into their eyes through a computer and it feeling as if they were there with you, feeling as if you weren’t separated by anything
Not being with them physically doesn’t hurt as much as it should, because at least you have them
It’s them repeating your name over and over again because they didn’t know what else to sing to you, they say it’s the only word on their mind
And when they smile, you feel like your life is complete
And when they speak, it holds more eloquence than any poet could manage
And when they laugh, you have to laugh too, because their happiness makes you euphoric
Then they say the words you’d been pondering about, wondering if they were the right ones to say
“I love you”
And you say them back, your chest swollen with the feelings you had just confessed
Love is when you get a call on your phone from an unknown number from a completely different country, but you answer it anyway
And you listen to the words the stranger says but can’t comprehend them, you can’t believe them
And you hear the phone get passed to your love, hear their distressed voice say their last goodbyes to you
You hear the apathetic beep in the background, a metronome for their lyrical, articulate, frantic voice
You hear it fade, hear them fade, and you hear them hang up the phone
And then you crash to the ground, phone still in your hands, and you let yourself weep
You tell yourself that they’re gone, but you don’t want to believe it
You don’t want to believe that such a bright thing could fade so quickly
You don’t want to believe that they would take such an amazing creature from this world
And you don’t want to believe they’re gone forever
And you lament some more, you mourn some more, you cry, you cry, YOU CRY
And you start to become angry, you start to doubt everything in this world
You start to hate every living being on this f*cking earth because they got to stay here and your love couldn't
You start to hate yourself for exactly the same reason
You cry and you cry and YOU CRY
And you scream and you scream and YOU SCREAM
And you go insane
You become something different, your thoughts growing more and more unstable
Love is when months later, your sorrow becomes warped
You become warped
You become something you know they’d hate, but you don’t care
You just float around, suspended by your own indifference, your own hatred
Except when you think of them
When you think of them you cry just like you did the moment you realized they were gone
You cry and you cry and YOU CRY
But your hatred doesn’t abate,
And you realize what you’ve become
And you’re disgusted with yourself, but you don’t care to stop
Because you’d realized that you no longer have anything left to live for
