Me Popular?
Chapter Five
When I got to school on Monday, McKenzie walked up to me.
“WHY’D you go on a date with Neal?”
“Because he asked me out, McKenzie, do you have a problem with that,” I asked.
“Oh, no, not with that, with YOU,” she screeched.
“What do you mean,” I asked very confused.
“I mean, Neal is POPULAR, he’s one of us, YOU’RE NOT,” now she was full on screaming and people were starting to stare.
“I think you’re overreacting on this one, why do you care who he dates, McKenzie,” I said slowly.
“Well,” she said icily, “I CARE because he WAS my boyfriend before he met you!” And with a flip of her hair, she was off.
I moved here a couple of years ago. I always knew he sort of liked her and we’d become pretty good friends…but I’d never known they’d dated!
Jenna walked up at that moment.
“What was it this time,” she said with no question.
“Neal again,” I said tiredly, we talked until it was time for class about McKenzie and her problems with people dating the people in her precious popular group. Popularity is a big thing here at Westmine, like, if you don’t live in the Greater, you don’t count, unless of course, you’re on one of the varsity teams, which we’re not.
Later, when I got home, I got a Skype call. It was Jake. He asked how things were going. I told him what was going on. He knew exactly how I felt as the same thing happened with him.
When he was at Westmine, he went with McKenzie’s older sister Tabitha. He was just like me, dating one of the Pops. It was terrible. We said our goodbyes after about an hour.
I got a text. It was from McKenzie, warning me to never go out with Neal again.
I told him, and he said he’d deal with her for me. See, McKenzie really isn’t all she’s cracked up to be, she live just a few blocks down from me, in the lower part of the Greater. So low actually, that it isn’t even considered to be in the Greater. But her dad works as a surgeon at the same hospital as mom so, they know each other. And her mom is right under the CEO of the Sephora here in town, so you know, that makes her family superior
She’s just cheer captain and beautiful and rich is all.
