Roommates
Chapter 14
Carson's POV
"So, your name is Carson?" Drake grinned at me.
We just woke up an hour ago, and we decided to walk to class together.
"Who told you?" I snapped.
"Oh, so it is." he chuckled.
"It's not funny." I said, crossing my arms.
"Sorry, it's just at first when Brett said your name, I was thinking of a guy." he smiled.
I blocked Drake out of my mind for a minute, and thought of Brett.
I sneaked in our dorm this morning to get a spare change of clothes, just in case I had to stay over again. I was walking out of my room when Brett appeared by his doorway, looking worried.
I didn't know what to do, so I just ran. I couldn't face him then, and I can't now.
"Hello? Carson?" Drake asked, waving his hands in my face.
"W-what?" I asked.
"Quit daydreaming." he joked.
"I was not!" I protested.
"Sure, we'll go with that." he winked.
He left me at my first class, accounting, and I sat in my usual seat.
Professor Grimes suddenly spoke up, and began his lesson for today.
I quickly jotted down notes as he was speaking.
After class, my hand was sore from writing so much.
I continued my day, moping around, jotting notes, taking homework assignments, and listening to professors talk.
After classes were over, I started to run back to my dorm to get some more stuff before anyone else comes back.
I got inside, and there wasn't any noise except for me walking.
I quickly took out some of my money, some more books, and more clothes. I was so lucky that Drake was letting me stay as long as I wanted.
Suddenly, my door slammed shut.
I quickly turned my head around, and did a double take.
Brett was blocking my only exit.
I got my bag with all of my stuff, and got up slowly, knowing he was watching my every move.
"Excuse me." I said, trying not to snap at him.
"Carson, you need to come back here." he said, with his usual icy blue eyes turning dark.
I bit my lip. "Why? There's no one here I can trust."
He seemed hurt by that, and I wished I had taken back my words.
"I have to go, Drake's waiting." I said, after a minute of me looking in his eyes.
"Wait, let me explain." he said.
I tried to fight back my tears from falling out. Why was I crying over Brett?
"There's nothing to explain." I said, with my voice cracking in the end.
"Carson, I didn't mean to-"
He was cut off by the sound of my phone vibrating in my pocket. I took it out, and I read the name of the person calling me. Nate.
Why hadn't I deleted his contact yet? I looked up at Brett, who was as shocked as I was.
"Answer it." Brett said after the forth ring.
I hesitated, and clicked the green 'answer' button.
My hand was shaking as I held it up against my ear. "Hello?"
"Carson! I'm so glad you picked up! We need to talk." Nate said, sounding happier than ever.
Was he drunk that day I confronted him? Did he not remember anything.
"I don't think that's a good idea." I said in a low voice.
"Come on, baby. I'm taking a flight here tomorrow, and the first thing I want to do is talk to you." Nate begged.
I rolled my eyes. "I'm not your 'baby'."
"So, is that a yes?" he asked.
I looked up at Brett who seemed irritated.
"Whatever. Fine." I said, and hung up on him.
"Carson, you don't have to go if you-"
I cut Brett of with, "I have to go do work and study. Bye."
I pushed passed him, and stormed off back to Drake's dorm.
