atleast if you asked for another chance then he would know that you actually wanna go out with him this time and your sure about it, about the height issue, he'll grow and personality over looks anyday but if he has a crush on your bestfriend then he's not worth it, if he loved the first (you) then he wouldn't fall for the 2nd (your bestmate) atleast your bestfriend has been honest with you, it is better than loads of lies cos that makes things more complicated, i hardly ever say yes to a boy first time they ask me unless im like 100% sure, but if they really liked me that much they'd fight for me and wouldn't go on to fancying someone else, hope this helps! :) x
