He holds onto the feeling of nothingness.
Holds onto every word about how he dresses.
Cries himself to sleep at night,
Trying to put up the fight
Imagining skies of gold and riches,
He's sick of getting stitches.
He thinks of the warm, welcoming, light,
every night.
Next day in school,
others pass him in the hall.
A foot standing in his direction,
But he was not paying attention.
He trips and falls into a crowd,
then his heart starts beating really loud.

He scrambles to get on his feet and pick up his books,
then he sees the familiar looks.
He runs down the hall, chased by others,
Pushing, and pushing through one another.
Then a rock finds his foot on the cement,
three little boys hitting his head leaving a dent.
They run away, him on the ground
Nothing but light, and his world spinning round.
He's been dead for weeks,
The kids think luckily they got no blood on their sneaks.

-Inspired by "Jeremy," by Pearl Jam.
