It's saying that looks can be deceiving. Just because something appears to be evil, doesn't mean it is. Just because something appears to be good doesn't mean it is. Basically don't judge a books by it's cover.

Yes, but then darkness isn't really true darkness if it doesn't equate to evil. It's called darkness for a reason.
